Trampolining is taking the UK by storm, and for good reason – it’s one of the best high intensity, low-impact workouts around. In fact, according to NASA, bouncing is “the most efficient and effective exercise yet devised by man”. It’s 68% more effective than jogging and, by our reckoning, 100% more fun.

If normal yoga doesn’t do it for you, try turning it on its head. Aerial or anti-gravity yoga uses suspended silk slings or “hammocks” to support you as you stretch, bend and swing into positions you’d never have imagined possible. It’s great for balance, flexibility, mobility and relaxation, and will help you build some serious core and upper body strength. If you’ve heard of parkour, also known as freerunning, you’ll probably associate it with the likes of James Bond and Jason Bourne leaping between burning roofs and moving trains – not something you could possibly do in a million years, surely? Think again. A growing number of adult beginners are learning the art, which some describe as “relearning how children naturally move through their environment”. Not ready to leave the comfort of your cosy living room just yet? Enter Hoolio. What is it? Think Netflix for fitness. Hoolio is a newly launched fitness streaming service which collects the best fitness videos on the internet in one place. Categories range from tough (HIIT) to relaxing (yoga), and you can even train with celebrity trainers.
Hoolio works on all devices and allows you to share videos and work out with friends all over the world.
We all need a little encouragement during these dark months. The Yaye app, free on Android and iOS, provides just that. Form a group with friends and set yourselves a goal, say, “Work out three times a week.” Whenever a group member does something towards that goal, they share an image with the group. No more excuses!
The trouble with online classes? No instructor to correct your technique. Thanks to PRIVATEbarre, you can have one-to-one barrecore lessons with a trainer from the comfort of your own home.
