The Royal Charter was announced
Talks about press regulation resumed - and this time a deal between the main political parties was more successful.
Labour, the Conservatives and the Lib Dems finally shook hands on an amended Royal Charter - press regulation backed by law. This means that media companies could face fines of up to £1m and have to issue full page apologies if they break the rules.
Newspaper editors are still mulling over the details but lobby group, Hacked Off welcomed the change.
