According to Danni, the majority of diets that cut-out carbs only work because they alleviate water retention - the water the body stores to break down carbohydrates. The pyramid diet encourages you to eat carbs in varying amounts on different days with high-protein foods, so while your weight will fluctuate, the body will be losing pure fat rather than just water. Also, the body relies on carbohydrates to stimulate the brain, and help you get lean so Danni says cutting them out altogether isn't wise. Certain carbs are off the menu though - the processed kind found in white bread, pizza and cake.
