You need not be concerned about your email address being made public if you want to send a mail to another forum user. Simply use the private message facility: click on the name of the person to whom you want to write. When their profile page appears, scroll down to the bottom and click on "Send Private Message"; write your message as instructed, and the next time that user logs in, a flashing envelope will appear under the Welcome message.
