Job contract problem - can anyone help?
      03/07/2009 19:03

In November 2008 I took a fixed term contract for 6 months to cover a sabbatical. At the 2 interviews for the job, I was told there was every intention of making the position permanent. In March I was then told that the company could not offer me a permanent contract but wanted me to stay and offered me a further 6 month contract. I accepted the offer (which I understand does in fact mean I had a contract for a further 6 months). I had nothing in writing and to confirm the offer I asked about it a few weeks later and was told the offer was still there - I reaffirmed my acceptance. Then in April I was told that the company was giving me 2 months notice to finish at the end of June!

I have gone through the grievance procedure and appeal - the company denies the offer of a 6 month contract and are not prepared to discuss the matter further. Is there any action I can take?

Any advice really appreciated - I'm so frustrated about this!
