I did Pilates and found that it helped my back because it strengthens the tummy muscles which in turn support the back by goin round.

But I did do it for about 3 years. It may have been that my back ache got better in the 3 years anyway. I still have to be careful when bending a lot such as gardening and have to limit the time I spend doing certain jobs.

I did think it was the Pilates that helped my back.
