Morning dec and mjm. I don't keep the counting up for vey long either. I think the idea is just to stop you thinking about other things until you are relaxed. It reminds me of when I had my tonsils out as a child and I was asked to count backwards from 10 as I went under the anaesthetic. I don't even stay awake for the whole PMK CD, never mind keep counting. Perhaps PMK has an anaesthetising effect on my brain. That could explain a lot !
