I have walked every day for years, normally walk 7 miles. The pedometer is a really good idea and once you get the hang of it it really does encourage you to walk.
The problem at the moment is the ice, be careful if there is snow where you live, I slipped yesterday fortunately landed on my bottom so no damage done! lol
Another good thing if you can't get out is one of those stepping machines, mine counts how many steps you have done and is very accurate. Mine also has a tension wheel on it so you can make it harder if you want! They are a little boring but if you put music on its not too bad! They are small and quite cheap mine cost about £30.
The only other downside is that if more the one family member uses it and has a different tension you have a job to tell where you had left the tension wheel. Well on mine you do, it doesn't have any numbers it's just a dial that turns around and around.
Personally I prefer to walk but steppers are great if you can't get out.
You have encourage me, I might get my stepper out today as it is very icy here and i don't fancy another full:-)
