Hi Jessie,

My OH and I were discussing the very same thing earlier this evening,as his mum lives in Sheltered Housing and the very same rule applies.

My dad(now retired) told me about this sometime ago, when he was the Health and Safety Officer for our County Council. I don't know that he himself agreed with it,but it was there in black and white.

The same principal also applies to your own front path,if you opt to clear it or salt it,then the responsibility lands at your door if there is an accident, including the postman, milkman or any other visitor. In the case of the post etc you are supposed to put a notice on your gate for warning,or go to the gate and collect your post, milk etc. As for other visitors,if you have made them aware, and they still opt to enter your premises,I think, note,I only think, you are then in the clear.

It's a crazy world we live in,isn't it?
