Queen of the pedometer here.

If I don't walk the dogs and just potter in the office and house, then I get around 2500,it's terrifying how little you actually move if you don't actually make any effort. I have a target of 15,000 a day. Did 16,570 yesterday. Today might not be up to scratch because the pavements were so icy this morning it was difficult to walk. Normally by 7.30 i have done 8 - 8,500, this morning it's a paltry 4379.

You'll have to try and get into a routine, it's the only way to do it. Check that your pedometer is recording accurately as well as there is a lot of difference in the quality. I rate Omron as being the best and I've had the current one for nearly 18 months and feel naked without it
