SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and Lightboxes
      03/01/2009 00:16

Hi Ladies,

I have been reading the "Depression" thread on the Family First Page, and have posted this on there as well, but thought it might be useful to put a seperate post here too.

Some people have mentioned SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) which I believe is a very real condition. My D became very depressed a few years ago due to her anorexia among other things but also because she suffers in winter due to the short, dark days. I decided to get her a light box, which I bought from the internet. This is the link for the company I used

http://www.lumie.com/shop/products/brightspark

I purchased the Brightspark light box, which is portable, and can be sat on a desk or table. She used to sit in front of it for an hour or two each evening when she was doing her homework, and within a couple of weeks she was noticibly less depressed and much brighter. I can't tell you how much this made a difference to her, and I would urge anyone who feels that they are affected by dark winter days and may be suffering from SAD, to purchase one. They may seem expensive, but this is a small price to pay for something that could transform and lift your mood in the space of a week or two.

Lisa. x
