Hi Rosettastone - hope you have a lovely meal to celebrate your silver wedding
Reading about the candlestick reminded me of a gift we were given when we married in 1975.It came from (an allegedly) wealthy relative on my OH side and we had it on good authority (my late MiL) that it would be something very special.
They bought the gift with them to the wedding, and me being me couldn't wait to open it. Unfortunately the photographer captured the moment that I discovered what it was, and never has the saying 'every picture tells a story' been more true. It was an enormous silver plated candlebra that wouldn't have looked out of place on a grand piano!. Even if we'd liked it, we had absolutely nowhere to display it other than on a formica topped kitchen table and I'm ashamed to say that we gave it to the local amateur dramatic group to use a prop.
