I couldn't agree more! I'm sick of every magazine I open having diets in it, every forum I've seen full of dieting, switch on the TV and it's diets, switch on the radio and it's diets! Being on a diet oneself is dull enough, hearing about other people's diets is mind numbing!
There is so much pressure on women to look a certain way (fine if it's for health reasons ... if one is obese, one is at risk) ... but this image bullying is really trying. I think it really belittes womens' self confidence and self image .. and the fact that many of the top bods at these magazines are women makes it all the more sad.
I no longer read a lot of magazines. If they fill their pages with unobtainable images I won't buy it. And if they focus on celebrities on an "off day" (otherwise known as normal life!) and make a big deal about a spot, or a bit of cellulite, then I'll think "shame on you" and stop buying it.
We have the power - it's right in our wallets and purses. If we stop buying magazines and newspapers that fill their pages (and therefore our heads) with rubbish, then they'll have to stop and think twice about their lazy journalism. Sadly, I fear that will not happen any time soon ... too many people want to look at pictures of celebrities going shopping and having lunch with their mates.
