Lucklegs, I loved it and so did my OH. Of all the books I read over the summer, this is the one I would recommend

I found the character based on Laura Bush really interesting, and the way she could fall in love with someone so different was believably brought to life

I also thought that it was interesting to consider whether marriage to a man whose politics were at odds with your own, and who had such a public role, would be successful, and how much of yourself you would have to subjugate to become the president's wife

I'm really reluctant to give up on books, so I usually have one last bash at getting interested, by reading 50 or so pages at one go .. then I do give up if it's no better! Struggling a wee bit with November's Eyes down choice at the moment tbh

Hi Luckylegs, yes I really enjoyed this book, Alice's life could have been so different if she had made a different choice..I also enjoyed the story of her Grandmother...a little political but a good read.

I agree with Scottish Mags, this is the best book i have read this summer and i placed a review of the book on this forum a couple of months ago.

Sorry that you have not enjoyed it so far but i do understand why you probably cannot get in to it. This is a 'slow burner' and not an action packed story but a tale of one womans life. It probably depends what mood you are at the time, try again when you can and feel ready.

I, too, agree with Scottish Mags. I thought it was so good i've recommended it to others. It was interesting to learn about Laura Bush and how she coped with the family she married into -a family I thought were grabbing, bad mannered and shallow. It also explains how George W Bush was negatively affected by his father but this shouldn't excuse his own crass behaviour.
