Help!! My washing machine has stopped working I need a new one. Any recommendations please?

I'm on my 3rd zanussi, I've never had to call an engineer, first one lasted 14yrs, second 9yrs, this one has a big 8kg capacity so can take a whole bed load, only thing I dont like is a quick wash is 120mins.
Currys advertised one on sale this week, worth a look

Another vote for Miele! They are quite expensive, but they never go wrong. I have Miele washing machine, dishwasher and tumble drier. When my oven needs replacing I will buy a Miele one.
p.s. I also have a Miele vacuum cleaner!

Ive had a Bosch for 10 yrs and havent spent a penny on it. Expensive to buy but worth every penny . And you know now that I have said that it will break down!! Or am I just feeling pessimistic.?

I'm a Zanussi fan - my first one lasted 16 years! The one I have at the moment is still going strong at 7 years. I've never had to call an engineer out to either.
Wouldn't recommend Hotpoint - I've known several people complain that they are not reliable.

Foxie - snap ! I too own a miele dishwasher aswell - so quiet I actually have to put my ear to the door to check its on and the dog and cat vacuum cleaner !! Will price up a tumble drier when mine gives up the ghost - but have to admit my philips whirlpool is lasting well

I have had 3 Indesit washing machines in 30 years, and one of them did 12 years in an hotel...all bedlinen, towels and tablecloths as well as our clothes. It was still going when we sold the business. Current on was bought when we moved to present home and is now 11 years old.
They are one of the cheapest around... in all those years only had an engineer out twice.

After much deliberation bought an LG Direct Drive (no belt etc to go wrong and less vibration) 7kg one a week ago. Lowish decibel reading. Very user friendly and has a quick wash which is quick!

I've had a Bosch for many years and when it finally went to the laundry in the sky recently, I had no hesitation in buying another one. I don't regret it at all, it is even better than the last one.  It is more economical and has lots of the extras that I always wanted on a machine, especially a display showing how much time there is until the wash finishes, which was always a bugbear of mine if I was planning to go out.

Thanks ladies for your great advice.
I have a Bosch at the moment and tbh have never really been impressed with it. It takes too long, and sometimes I find soap residue in the washing and have to rinse it again. Maybe i've just been unlucky.

Have a 12 year old Miele washing machine, with a family of 6 it runs about twice a day every day and sometimes three times, hOW MANY WASH LOADS IS THAT???Yes I know, we probably change our clothes too often but I like to be clean!! And with 4 teenagers I have a lot of washing. Never repaired the thing its very reliable.
Miele oven though has broken shelf runners they didn't last two years so take note Miele fans the Washing machine is the best of their range.
Have a miele dishwasher also and thats also trouble free.

I am very impressed with my recent purchase - an LG Direct Drive washer with 9kg capacity. It has a steam wash feature which is superb for heavy soiling. It also has a allergy programme, a babycare programme, and a 20 min refresh cycle - supposed to replace dry cleaning. I have tried it, and it was v good. It is also a lovely shiny black, so looks very nice with my black shiny worktops in the ute.
This is my 2nd LG washer in 9 years. The first even survived a fire from my tumble drier (only slight singe marks), and continued working faultlessly for another 4 years.

Another miele fan here with the washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher...all work very well and are quiet. I like the WM as it has a timer on it so you know how long the wash has got. There is a 30 minute quick wash as well.

Yet another Miele fan. I bought mine last year and got a free ten year parts and labour guarantee from Miele. That tells me that these machines are built to last. Interestingly Comet still tried to sell me a 3 year extended warranty for £259! Although they are expensive to buy, with that kind of guarantee I thought it was worth it because I've never had a washing machine that has been fault free for 10 years. It also washes things much cleaner than my old Zanussi did, and I love the quick wash function and they way it tells you how long it's got to go. You can alter the temperature and spin speed and do extra rinses, but it lacks a rinse and spin cycle, which is something I'd like for when I've done hand washing. A friend of mine has a 26 year old Miele still in use.
I was interested in the comment about Indesit machines. I had one of their dishwashers and it lasted 19 years before I replaced it. It still worked, but was very noisy, and the baskets were starting to rust. Great value from a cheaper brand of machine.

The new Bosch that I have takes much less time than the old one and you can customize the programming to do just what you want much easier. Never had a soap problem.
