baby asthma and weaning - can anyone help?
      #501256 - 05/11/2009 13:10

My 9 month old granson has just been diagnosed with baby asthma and I am sure it's becasue he is being given cow's milk to drink in his bottle and no longer has infant formula. He has also gone from being a happy baby to one who keeps crying and now with the diagnosis of asthma I am so concerned but his parents are in charge and I feel so helpless!! I have printed off some information from the food standards agency and other weaning sites which all state babies should not have cow's milk under 1 year as it can cause allergies and does not have the required nutrients in it. Has anyone got any experience in this area and advice on how best to I approach this without his parentsthinking I am interfering yet again!

Could you write to their GP explaning your concerns, and restating what you've said here?

May I ask if the baby is your daughter's or your son's? If the latter, then I can see why 'interfereing' is a delicate matter.....

All the best, and hope things improve - Julie

Thanks Julie. The baby is my son and his wife's first child. However since I wrote on the forum I have spoken to a friend who is a health visitor and she has resssured me that it's ok to give cow's milk as long as he has baby vitamins that include iron. She's also told me about baby asthma so panic over for now! Phew what a relief.
