Hi all,
Its the small things that make your day!!!
Thought we would have a browse in the local charity shops today, (sometimes do this on a weekend) and found three of the books I have put on my amazon wishlist. Sometimes you get lucky and find the odd one but three was great and for a fraction of the price!
Anyway just thought I would remind us all of the bargains out there!

I help in a charity shop and this week, because we had a lot of books , we did buy one get one free. This means two books for under £2. I've just seen ,in the local paper, that the Lions book shop is having a sale on monday in our town centre so I'll give them a visit.

Hi Mags,
I got...
1 - The Outcast by Sadie Jones 2- The time travelers wife - Audrey Niffenegger 3- The information officer - Mark Mills
Must admit I love charity shops, you are helping people and grabbing a bargain, nothing better.

Hi Jenin
When you've read them, come back and tell us what you thought. I really enjoyed The Outcast and the Time Traveller's Wife is very popular.. I've read another by Mark Mills and enjoyed the black humour, but haven't come across The Information Officer .. I think you did well there!

Well funnily enough I have just come back from a foray into a charity shop.
Got to read Suite Francaise for book club in one weeks time and the one I ordered on E bay 2 weeks ago hadnt arrived - flipping seller sd she had family problems and couldnt do anything. Well I remembered spotting it in charity shop lat weekend so went in ther this afternoon with a friend but couldnt see it - really didnt want to pay full price. Then just as I was turning to go she spotted it and it was only £1. Hurrah. So now I have 9 days to read it in bed and in the loo and whenever I get a moment - as if!!! friend at work read it wand said it was v good so I told my book club ladies and they are reading it too - look daft if I turned up having not completed it. Its had v good reviews. F1x

Charity shops are fabulous for bargain books.
Recently I bought The Island by Victoria Hislop and the Short History of nearly everything by Bill Bryson. What a great find. just what i was looking for. When I go shopping with my mum she always moans because I always head to the books in the charity shop first.

I often buy my books at the charity shops. A while back I bought 11 children's classics for 20p each. At the time my children were not impressed but as they have grown older and have mentioned these titles I've been able to say " hold on - i've got that one upstairs somewhere." Just recently I found Lord of the Flies by William Golding for 25p at a fete which is handy as I belive that may be my son's GSCE literature text. We will find out next week as the kids go back to school. Hoorah!

Hi everyone
I have The Pirate's Daughter on my to-read pile .. I must get to it soon
mimosa - I remember not really enjoyng the Jane Austen Book Club either - I'd rather read a real book by Jane Austen! Do you like her as an author?
FX1 - Suite Francaise is brilliant and so sad when you know the real-life background to the story, with the author being thrown into a concentration camp - she was literally racing against time to write it as the Nazis were rounding up more and more Jewish people. Her husband's letters trying to get her released are hesrt-breaking ..

Most of my bargain books come in the form of shared ones and those that friends pass on and between our BFOH book club group and from those who live local to me.
BFOH stands for Brought For On Holiday
I do go and pop into my local Help The Aged charity shop and when I am able and I'm passing. Have often picked up a great bargain and a good read or two from there
