      #429210 - 27/07/2009 21:56

My husband has strained a muscle in his back. His GP suggested a memory foam mattress. As they are fairly expensive I wondered if any of you wonderful ladies out there have any experience of these mattresses,or advice for me.

My D has one and she calls it the brick, not very helpful to you but she is definately sleeping better now. Her OH is very large and wears matteresses (?) out but this one seems to be lasting better.
Hope someone else has better advice for you.

Hi, I have had one for three years now and have never looked back. I damaged a disc in my back ten years ago and thought a full nights sleep was a thing of the past, not so, I can even get out of bed without 'rolling' now. Bit odd at first, it feels a bit squishy and too soft, but go for it I promise it is worth it!

My sister has one as her husband has a bad back and they say it is wonderful, well worth the money.

Got one about four years ago. I have back problems and OH has arthritis. We are both much more comfortable. Yes it takes a little while to get used to the squishiness when you sit on it but it is wonderfully comfortable to sleep on from day 1. It is also silent - no creaky springs when you turn over; there's no rolling together in the middle of the mattress, no irritation from being aware of each other's every restless movement, and you don't need to turn the mattress - ever!

Just don't try standing on it to change a light bulb - you sink!!

Also have the memory foam shaped pillows. No more plumping pillows, stiff necks, or thumping pillows around in the middle of the night to get comfy.

Would never go back to an ordinary mattress or pillows again.

DDx

I only have the Tempur pillows and LOVE them!

Will definitely buy the mattress fairly soon.

Have Tempur pillows but use a Vi-spring mattress which I prefer to memory foam.

Don't be tempted by cheaper imitations - Tempur may be expensive, but they are definitely the best. There is a new mattress out which has a softer top before it gets to the Tempur foam - lovely!

I finally took the plunge and finally bought one. It was delivered at the weekend. I got it in the sale 75% off the orginal price - less than £200. I've had 4 wonderful nights sleep. Can't wait to get into bed now! zzzzz

Having been medically retired due to chronic back pain we took the plunge & spent £2000 on tempur matress & pillows & its the best money we have ever spent!
Took about a month to really get used to it as its such a different experience, but absolutely love it!!

I love my memory foam matress and sleep really well on it, though it can take a bit of getting used to as it can feel hot, but love it, money well spent

You can get memory foam mattresses as soft or hard as you wish. Ours is quite hard (maybe abit too hard).

Find it comfortable, but really, really hot compared to a standard mattress!! If we hadn't paid alot of money, we'd go back to a standard mattress to be cooler at night.

I needed a new bed and was very tempted to buy a memory one.

Lady in the store told me not to if I was hot at night - which I am.

A good tip is to buy a cheaper divan base and the most expensive mattress you can afford... most good bed stores will let you do this. The cheapest Vi-spring is a world better than most other top of the range mattresses and lots of deals out there at the moment. I think I am right in saying that Tempur have brought out a new mattress with a more aerated top layer which does help with it getting too hot.... good hunting and try before you buy - no bed salesman worth his salt will mind you having a good long trial lay down - dont be embarrassed!
