Time to change hairstyle....help!
      #428121 - 25/07/2009 18:54

Hi everyone - this is my first post here - in need of advice and help...

I've had a bob for ages now - have quite fine hair which does look good when cut and blowdried - have quite a few grey around the temples too

But - have decided it's now time for a change and have been gathering courage to do something different - I'm tempted to go shortish but afraid I'll end up looking silly! Any suggestions for a really good stylist in Richmond / Sheen where I can go and be confident that I'll get really good advice...?

Also getting my act together to join a Supper Club - anyone know of one in this area/

Thanks in anticipation!
Sue

Hi Rustie, and welcome to the Forum I don't live near you but have you tried the Woman and Home Virtual make over on this website. You up load a photo of yourself and you can try all sorts of different hairstyles, hair colours, make up , glasses etc.

Everyone said my girls looked like twins. It wasn't until I uploaded YD's photo and put a hairstyle like ED has that I could see that they looked like twins too.

Give it a go, its good fun and good luck with your new look.

Take a picture along of a style you like and the colour you want your hair to be. Then there can be no misunderstandings.

Hi Rustie - just spent an hour on the W&H Virtual Makeover - what a hoot! Printed out pic of hairstyle and make-up (pity it can't slim my face down, and give me plastic surgery!).
It's fun and useful - seems I need a side-swept fringe, and chin-length wispy cut, with dark blonde hair.

Thanks for the replies ....Jools, I also spent ages on the W&H Virtual Makeover thingie - as you say, it was a real giggle - got some weird and wonderful looks!

I've decided to try a 'Felicity Kendall' kind of look - shorter but with layers to give a bit of bounce - need something low maintenance as I swim most days...and I'm keeping the grey - I've earned it!

Thanks again!

Hi Rustie, I see you've already had good advice on deciding what style you might want.

I live near you but, I'm afraid, have no recommendations for a local hairdresser. I'm sure there must be some good ones, but haven't come across them. The few times I have tried locally, I haven't found any inspiring salons.

As we are lucky enough to live so near central London - where I spent my working life and now go for study purposes several times a week - I've always much preferred to go to a good London salon. Charles Worthington are good, as are Aveda and John Frieda - in my opinion. All have informative websites.

When I've changed salons over the years, I've always booked in for a (free) consultation first, to see if I feel happy with the stylist and colourist, and with the salon. Sometimes I've had 2 or 3 of these before settling on 'the one'. Good luck!

Thanks artemisia...I hadn't thought of trying one of the London salons - just shows how we tend to get stuck in a rut...;)

Will definitely check out some websites - as you say, you can definitely get a 'feel' for whether or not a place will suit or not...

Thanks again - will report back when I've done the deed!

Hi Rustie had my hair cut a few weeks ago from a bob, first time it has been short in 30 years. My late OH didn't like short hair so i kept it longer. The reaction was great everyone thinks i look 10 years younger. I love it, give it a go it will always grow!! Let us know how it goes.

Hi Rustie Let us know when you do it and what you think. i am trying to decide whether to get rid of the fake colour and go grey (with colour) as I am 80% there already. I know what a dilemma it is. good luck

After my disasterous hair restyle last week I would say dont go somewhere new for the change. Get to know the stylist first and discuss your hair and what you want. My "basin" cut was not at all what I was hoping for.

Glitterqueen - you poor thing....having had several disasters over the years, I know just how you feel! Still haven't had anything done but am keen on the kind of cut that Felicity Kendall has in that Actimel ad...

Like you say, get to know the stylist - I have been going to a very good guy locally but I just dont think he has the 'flair' to do something different for me....sigh....

Going into London next week to check out a couple of places - will let you know
Thanks guys

Hey Cadenza - will let you all know when I finally bite the bullet!

As for the grey, I kinda like mine - I'm dark as it is and dont have too much - yet! I know a few people who keep covering up the grey and either they're DIYing, or just not getting it right which really has put me off - I think I'll just go with it and grow grey disgracefully!

Rustie

Just tried the makeover sight....what a laugh.. thought I had curly hair till I saw that...poodle with a perm...lol ..I am now wavy !

I have had the same home hairdresser for almost 9 years, understands my hair and never dissapointed with cut or colour and its much cheaper and easier than going to a salon.
