Is she going alone or with friends? Has she had all the necessary jabs and has checked what medication she needs to take with her. I expect she has done lots of research about the areas she proposes to visit. She will have a great time I am sure.

I have a friend who travels all over the world.

She and her husband take 2 peppermint oil capsules each day, one in the morning, one at night. They never ever have tummy upsets

Not expensive (Holland and Barrett) might be worth trying

My 19 year old nephew flies tomorrow to India for six weeks of backpacking!! My sister is also worried.

Lots of jabs, rehydration tablets, even water purifying tablets, Paracetamol and Imodium in vast quantities.
(Contraceptive pill if taking - avoid periods whilst there)
Bacterial hand wash.

Ask GP about malaria status of India.

Let's hope they both have a wonderful life experience!!

Make sure she's had her jabs, has got a supply of imodium and rehydration powders and phone numbers for the British consulate/embassy wherever she's likely to be. If she can it's a good idea to memorise your passport number just in case it goes missing - an ex colleague found that it helped sort things out when hers went missing abroad.

hi, my daughter went to India for 3 months several years ago when she was 19, she went to help teach young childfren in Kerala. the group she went with had arranged accomadation with a local family. she had a great time. - yes I did worry especially when she travel on her own after the placement. Phone calls were few and far between too.
so try & make sure all her jabs are up to date, that you have a local emergency contact number, copies of passport/tickets etc.
most of all enjoy them coming home and listening to their amazing experiences
