Leicestershire and South Notts July, August and September
      #424335 - 18/07/2009 20:14

Grr!

Just written a really long post and it disappeared so here goes again! Firstly sorry that I haven't posted earlier, I've been getting the house ready to put it on the market and will let you know how we get on when we meet next.

Our June walk around Calke Abbey in Ticknall was very pleasant and Val, Pam, RJaly and I finished the evening off at a nice pub (no cake but plenty of lovely food and laughs).

I thought it would be nice to have another evening walk in July along the river at Barrow on Soar and Angelina reccommended the Marina at Pillings Lock for a meal or drink afterwards. Does Tuesday 28th suit anyone? 6pm?

In August I thought we could visit Foxton Locks and walk along the canal there. I know it's a bit further than we normally go but we could car share perhaps. Having said that I am busy every weekend except the bank holiday weekend. Is that any good or does someone else want to organise it!

Rjaly suggested a walk at the Melbourne Arts festival on Sunday September 14th and that sounds interesting (and there are plenty of cafes in Melbourne, can anyone spot a theme developing!)

I hope you are all having a lovely summer, welcome Blooming Polly please join us at one or all of the walks.

See you all soon

Penny

Hiya Penny
Sorry I missed the June walk it sounded like fun.
Your suggestions for July August & September sound good to me; so count me in. I need the exercise as I have just spent the last week lying in the sun eating in Spain. I now look like a brown beached whale!
Hope to see all the walkers I know soon along with any newbies.

Carey

Hi Penny, Carey & Deb

I can do the July walk - know where Barrow on Soar is! Hope the weather improves before then, although it's good today.

Good luck with the house sale Penny!

See you all then.

Hi BloomingPolly and welcome!

I think it's best if we meet on the bridge over the Soar on the road into Barrow from Quorn, that way we should find each other! There are some car parks around there and some parking on the road as well. I shall be there at 6pm (I hope!) and we can take it from there and talk about the other walks then. It looks like there'll be a few of us so see you all next week!

I'll PM you with my mobile phone number Polly in case you get lost or nervous (we were all new once!).

Penny

I will try to bring some pics. However,I still haven't recovered from a sprained ankle the Monday after the wedding and last week I ricked my back moving furniture, so it will be suck it and see on Tuesday. I shall make every effort to be there though. Sometimes ankle has been ok and I have walked 3-4 miles with Ds dog and other times I can't do it.Aahhh altogether now.

Sorry to hear about your ankle RJALY, I hope you feel better soon.

The bridge in Barrow has a pub on either side of the road called the Riverside and Soarbridge (I think) so that may help us to find it.

See you all then

P

Hi Everyone, new and established, she says tactfully !!!!! We have had a really great and at times quite moving 18 days in Scotland for 'Scotland Homecoming' year - lots of sunny weather too ! How busy and active you have all been ! I tried to persuade Ian to buy one of the little shacks by the river at Barrow for about £18000 last year but the threat of floods put him off. Hope you had a lovely walk.
Let me know re Foxton Locks - where are they ?
Melbourne in diary.
Good luck with house sale Penny.
Val

Hi Val,

glad you had a good holiday, I'm off to sunny Wales next week.

Foxton Locks is near Market Harborough, it's a run of 20ish locks down a small stretch of canal and is nice for a walk.

We haven't decided whether Saturday or Sunday is best, what does everyone think?

Penny

Thanks Ellen

No one seems interested in Foxton Locks and I am up to my ears in house selling so I will give it a miss too. Sorry.

The walk in September at Melborne should still go ahead, I'll start a new thread for it and ask the lovely (and wonderfully named) RJALY what time she thinks is best for you to meet. I have some family commitments that I can't get out of but I'm sure you'll have a good time at the Melborne Arts Festival.

See you all soon

Penny
