I have just finished reading this book and have been extemely moved by it. My family come from the part of Ireland that the book is set in and my grandparents were of this era. There were secrets in our family that could relate to Roseanne's and that to this day my Father does not talk about. So, the story could be that of many a young Irish girl.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves history.

I read this book earlier this year on holiday, and I have to say I could not put it down. Maybe not the happiest book I have read recently but certainly one of the most gripping. It is really well written, well worth a read. Kate

I agree, it's a great book though heart-breaking in parts. Shows how different and judgemental attitudes to women's behaviour were less than a century ago

Only took two days to read this book, thought it was brilliant. Would strongly recommend.
