Pinks

Can any one advise me on what to do with a clump of Pinks please?

I have a fairly large clump that I noticed in the late spring was getting a bit straggly, but as it was full of blooms left it be.

The plant however is looking worse, (maybe because of the dry weather). Can I dig them up and divide them, if so when should I do this?

I would have thought you could divide them in autumn but I would take some cuttings first just incase.

Try the Gardeners World website for more advice or put dianthus into google to find more expert advice.

Take cuttings I made the mistake of dividing mine and they never really recovered.
