We have stayed at Dubai Towers, the Fairmont, the Shangri-La , all of which are in town, but the standard of hotels in Dubai are fantastic so I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I'm really jealous your off there, hope you have a wonderful time

Be very aware of the exorbitant prices of food and drink in the hotels.

I've just returned from a long weekend in Dubai and stayed at the Hilton, Jumeirah Beach (in the past I've also stayed at Fairmont, Le Meridien, Grand Hyatt, Grosvenor House, Shangri-La and One and Only and they're all really nice). Work related - not pleasure
What I liked about the Hilton was it only had 10-floors, had a cosy feel to it and you are on "the walk" - type of promenade with local restaurants. Easy enough to get taxi's to city centre or the shopping malls.
Food and drinks are expensive but the service is outstanding

Thank you everyone for the recommendations. Just thinking about it at the minute but this has given me food for thought. Lucky you Elliekelly all those visits to Dubai even if it was work.

I have been to Dubai a few times with my husband who attends conferences there and I think that the best place to stay is definately The Al Qasr Hotel. It is right on a beautiful beach and next door to a souk and near a big shopping mall with a ski slope. It is made to look like an arabian palace and is always quiet even when full. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, sometimes with live music nearby and you can take a boat ride to one of the other hotels in the group and have a drink or meal in any of then (including the Burj which is the famous sail type one). There is also a small water park within walking distance.

If you have children you might want to consider the Atlantis Hotel on the Palm. It has a beautiful aquarium and one of the best water parks I have been it. As it has lots of rooms they are doing a few good offers to fill it in todays hard times. The one thing I don't like about this place is that there is nowhere you can walk to apart from the hotel grounds and beach. http://www.bestatdubaiholidays.co.uk/hol...CFQESzAodxnML_Q
Both these hotels are in the upper price bracket and I know that there are plenty of other hotels which are much cheaper as Dubai, like a lot of places, is suffering from the financial downturn. I visited a few other hotels which staying there and I have not seen one which is of a inferior standard.

If you have kids, the Jumeirah Beach hotel is hard to beat. All residents get into Wild Wadi water park free which can save you a lot of money. They also do good outdoor movie nights at the pool.
A friend stayed at the Atlantis and really enjoyed it.
Remember to haggle before you book - there are bargains to be had just now!
