Atkins Diet
      #416042 - 03/07/2009 11:29

I would love to hear from anyone who is on or has been on and been successful with The Atkins Diet.

I know a lady that has had amazing results with it - and would like to know if anyone else has

it's a brilliant diet for a short time. I think it's too extreme to follow for any length of time though, i lost quite a lot on it but eventually started to crave things like yoghurt and bananas ! not bad things i know, but NOT allowed on Atkins ! i also had loads more energy as i've now found that too many carbs make me feel really tired, eating a jacket potato nearly sends me to sleep ! I think Slimming World is a better balanced diet to follow, nothing is banned.

Hi Lillie
Yes, I have followed the Atkins Diet in the past. I lost 18lbs in 10 days - I felt really ill though, and of course put it all back on immediately.
The best advice I have had is to eat like a cavegirl. Nothing processed, no wheat products or dairy - lots of fresh veg, berries and lean meat with a quality fish oil supplement. Lots of protein is the key - just like Atkins, but balance it with lots of veg. Serious sportsmen use this diet, and they are in great shape. You can have a square of dark choc and 1 glass of red wine per day to help with the cravings.... Good luck

Mm. I have done it off and on for a long time and like it best above Rseomary Conley/Low glycaemic thingy.
I love things like bacon, steak and cheese and dont like pasta, so it has been good for me. I dont have a sweet tooth either.
However the restriction on fruit and vegetables, that grow under rather than over ground, is restrictive. I think that you are allowed to eat berried fruit though these days. I do it fairly conscientiously for about 2/3 weeks before a holiday or occasion and loosely the rest of the time.( I am 60 about 5'3 and good weigh 9st 7 and bad 10st)

I've never tried this diet, but know a couple of people who have. Yes, they lost a lot of weight, but felt yuk and when they came off it put the weight back on with interest.

Personally just couldn't follow a diet that didn't allow fruit.

Oh dear !! lol I am still unsure what to do - whether to attempt this or not ...... I know it is very restrictive and I have also heard too that like some of you say you do or can put the weight straight back on again afterwards, as you can lose quite a bit initially. I do have a sweet tooth and I ADORE fruit, so yes that would be a bit of a prob
lem .

I didnt put it back on, because basically it was a sort of eating that suited me and still does. It didnt make me feel yucky although I know someone who developed kidney problems.
I had to endure a lot of 'holier than thou 'comments from friends though.
So you need to be sure that that it will suit you on all counts before you try it
