Scar Tissue / Abdominal Pain
      #409930 - 18/06/2009 14:44

Hi Ladies,

I have been suffering with abdominal pain in my right side for the last 2 weeks and today paid a visit to my GP for advice. She says it is likely to be caused by scar tissue after having several abdominal operations and there isn't anything much she can do for me!!! Great and not what I wanted to hear!!!

Has anyone else ever been told this and do you have any tips how to cope with the pain or should I just go back and pester her a bit more for help? I am suffering a lot now!

Tracy x x

Hi Tracy
thought i'd replied to u but cant find where it went so here goes again..... sorry to have to tell u that scar tissue an the pain is here to stay there's nothin they can do as further surgery to remove it just creates more.... the only thing i can suggest is treatin it like period pain, hot water bottles, warm baths and not overstretchin while the pain is present. it will settle down again but u will have 'flare ups' every so often, particularly if u have overdone it with the stretchin or liftin anythin heavy.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, hope u feel better soon...

G x

Tracy............... I am with GeeCeeA on this. I have scar tissue across my bikini line from hysterectomy. I cannot bear anyone to touch it. It gives me such a horrible feeling inside and still gives me problems if I stretch too high or lift something too heavy. Had it 20+ years ago!!!!

Like GeeCeeA says, hot water bottle or bath and painkillers.

Sorry cannot give you much comfort................thimble.

I've had loads of abdominal surgery and remember back quite a few years when the pain from scar tissue was bad.I seem to remember having infra-red heat treatment on it,it must have helped because I don't have any probs now.Ask your GP about this, hope you get some help, good luck.

Thank you ladies for all your replies... It's good to know that I am not on my own with this.

I will however find out about this infa red treatment and see if there is anything I can do about this before I go back and see my GP.

thank you once again for all your support

Take care

Hello T,
Just picked up on this thread. I think it might subside with time. I am still getting all sorts of weird feelings in and around my scar - completely numb above it for about an inch above and 3 inches across. Don't know about your previous surgery but from the previous chats about the recent one, I think it takes a long time to settle down.
