A new look for the bedroom
      #398255 - 28/05/2009 03:39

I have decided to change the bedroom. It wont be too drastic.
At the moment I have a cream carpet, cream walls and light coloured furniture so I really have a blank canvas - so I thought.
Went along to my local Dunelm Mill and chose some really nice Dorma curtains and bedspread to match in cream. Thought I would have them with some duck egg blue cushions on the bed. THEY LOOKED AWFUL. I think it was because there was too much cream. It needed to have some oomph !
My colour scheme at the moment is cream bedspread and curtains with big red flowers.I still like them but think a chagne would be good
Any ideas on colours for a change please. I dont want to change the colour of the walls. OH would have a fit if I asked to paint - again.

Can you take the curtains and bedspread back? If so, perhaps choose something with a cream background but a brightly coloured pattern. If not, then give OH a large drink and perhaps just do one wall, eg the one behind the bed, in duck egg blue to go with the cushions. You could also see if there are any nice pictures with the blue on them which would break up some of the cream walls.

I am a real fan of duckegg blue and that is my half decorated bedroom too.

I would do as Susie suggests and get OH to do a focus wall in duck egg blue, take curtains back and try and get some in cream and duck-egg, maybe add a couple of rugs with duckegg blue in them too, I got some great ones from ebay after much searching, then maybe a lightweight quilt in duck egg, folded up across the bottom of the bed.

Just another suggestion, if you decide to stick with your curtains with red flowers...

M&S have a stunning duvet cover with one broad band of red satin roses in 3D ( I'm not describing this well, but look it up on-line ) which was on display in the M&S home store near us and everyone who saw it was just going Wow! Pillow slips and cushions to match. It wasn't the cheapest but I did get 30% off ordering from the website.

Duck-egg blue would also be great and nice and restful for a bedroom though...

Or if you can't take the curtains back what about getting really jazzy tie backs and a few accessories. Don't just stick to one shade or texture though otherwise it will still look 'lifeless'. Get quite a few cushions in different shapes and sizes and what about a coloured throw for the end or even accross the middle when you aren't using it. If you have a chair then how about a throw slung over the back of it. A small rug in the colours you choose and some pretty storage boxes to put anything that in display that shouldn't be so that you can put some really flashy photo frames out (with pictures in preferably) If the cream shade is tooo dul then what about buying some beads and just stictching them on round the edge-I did this with mine as Icouldn't find the colour and it looks lovely. My base is cream with mulberry/damson and I absolutely love it. It's peaceful but by no means dull or boring. I'll take a pic later and show you what I mean. What about buying a new headboard. I ordered one in the colour I wanted for a superking bed and it was £100 which I though was really reasonable.

Good luck

Just had another idea! You could do just two strips of really lively wallpaper in the right colour-it doesn't have to be the whole wall and doesn't have to be vertical. One strip horizontally along just one feature wall with a couple of coloured frames or pictures?

Hi...bit late I know, yet my thoughts are....duck egg and cream you thought would be lovely, however, they are both rather subtle colours that won't acheive much of an impact. I think you need to have a focus point and use the red in the curtains - you should pick up on this, i.e. instead of duck egg cushions, go for red and a big picture maybe behind the bed picking up the red again. hope that helps, but no doubt you've made changes already.
