Leicestershire and South Derbyshire Walkers Sunday 17th May 10:30
      #385083 - 04/05/2009 22:33

Hello everyone and sorry I have been off the pc for a few weeks. Very busy doing year-end work and generally gallivanting around.

You voted fairly evenly for the 2 dates I suggested but someone noticed that the other date was bank holiday weekend so Sunday 17th seemed the best option. I thought we could walk around Groby Pool again as we did that in the auumn and it was a nice walk. It's about 3 and a half miles long with plenty of coffee places and toilets along the route. I will dig out the directions from my previous post if it still exists on the forum but if not I think the car park is signposted and it is opposite the garden centre (where we will have tea and cakes after the walk). Looking forward to seeing you all then. I hope 10:30 is a good time for you all, let me know if it isn't

Penny

Hiya Penny
Look forward to seeing you and the other Leicestershire girls on the 17th; hopefully we will get nice weather again we have been very lucky on our last two walks.

Any new walkers out there please feel free to come along and join us; we're quite nice really.

Bye

Carey

Hi Penny ! That sounds like a lovely idea as i missedthius walk last time. I am back from my Scottish and Swedish trips - very much ying and yang under the rather surreal circumstances. Hope to see you on 17th Val

Hi, I have just finished reading W & H which mentioned the walking group. I would be really interested in joining and Groby Pool sounds just the right start to break me in gently! Is it ok to just turn up ?

Sharon

Sharon, it will be lovely to meet you - we seem to attract an additional walker each time now - we are certainly establishing ourselves as a relaxed and friendly group. Hope to see you on Sunday. Val (head now together after travels so hopefully, this letter all spelt correctly !)

Here are the directions for anyone who doesn't know how to get to Thornton reservoir: the post code is LE67 1AR if you have satnat and the main entrance is on is on Reservoir Road. It's only a couple of miles away from M1 junction 22 (markfield). From Coalville (the centre of the universe) take the A50 towards Leicester. At the Field Head roundabout (Coach and Horses pub on RHS) take the 3RD exit (passing Markfield Court and Conference centre on your left). Keep going, pass over motorway Bridge, then take the 1ST right hand turn (sign posted Thornton). The car park is on the RHS opposite a garden centre and we'll meet at the entrance to the car park.

see you all there

Penny

Hi Penny and everyone else!

I would have joined you on this walk, but I am going on my first forum jaunt to Belfast this weekend! Enjoy it and I hope we all have good weather.

Happy Birthday Val - just noticed a cake next to your name!

Have a good evening!

Sorry everyone it's me getting Groby and Thornton mixed up. It is THORNTON we are meeting at. I'll send PM's or emails to everyone that I think might come and hopefully the directions will be clear enough for people to find the right place.

I've been off the site for a few weeks as my elderly mum fell and broke her collar bone and is practically housebound now as she was quite infirm before it happened. She's going back to the hospital tomorrow so I'm hoping they are pleased with her progress. Everything else is looking good though (and those of you who know me will know what this means!)

See you on Sunday

Penny

As it's Val's birthday it's only fitting that we should eat cake. I shall force some down to be polite!

A rather wet walk but, as always, good company, followed by coffee and cake ! What more can a girl (or should that be lady) ask for!
