Hi
I've been to Cyprus many times now, & have grown to love it, although I didn't like it much at all the first time I went!
If you can, hire a car and explore into the Troodos mountains -away from the touristy areas on the coast there are some interesting little villages and dramatic scenery.
The many archaeological sites along the coast, between Paphos/Limassol/Larnaca are fascinating. The Tombs of the Kings in Paphos is well worth a visit, Kourion Ampitheatre, the Sanctuary of Apollo....the Kikkos Monastery, up in the Troodos, is another definate must, Old Nicosia.....
It's a fascinating place - enjoy!

Hi Becky No I am not stalking you, it is me who just answered on the health page. I saw you post here and can't add more to what the other lady said, but Kikkos really is worth a visit and Polis/Laatchi are nice too. What I wanted to say is do mention your forthcoming trip to your specialist, my husband now has heparin injections before flying to stop clotting, perhaps you can discuss it with the specialist to be safe. Have a lovely time Lynne

Hi Becky,
Lived in Cyprus on and off for 15 years, and have also been back to the Island within the last five years, what a difference we saw, the place had changed so dramatically, and standards had greatly improved.
The Cypriot people are really friendly, English is spoken nearly everywhere. You must try a Meze, which is a meal with lots and lots of different vegetables, and salads, and meat, or you can have one with just fish.
The standard of eating out is Cyprus is generally excellent, make sure you go somewhere by recommendation, preferably by a local person.
Hiring a car and just exploring the island is the easy way to find places of interest as well as the cultural places, its amazing what you will see off the beaten track.
As someone else mentioned, stay off the tourist routes, visit Paphos, and Limassol, and Nicosia, but there is far more places of interest in Cyprus, you just have to find them.
Hope you have a lovely time.

I holidayed in Cyprus for many years - and had a house there -I agree wholeheartedly with the lady who says "hire a car" and get of the beaten track - to arrive at a "real" village taverna (as used by locals) the likely welcome - will be unsurpassable !! Phyti up in the mountains in the Paphos area being just one - and the trout restaurant on the Troodos mountain road set in a woodland clearance - superb !! Cyprus has been in the EU now for about eight years - hope it has not been made to abandon its traditions and way of life !! Wish I were You - Have a wonderful trip Maeve

Hi Plasmo, yes I'm fine, it is just that this time of year the outdoors has far greater pull. It's my favourite time of year here, hasn't got too hot yet but the pool is now warm enough to swim. Also getting on top of the garden before the heat. Hope you are OK too.
Maeve 40, the South has been in the EU since 2004 when they voted against the Annan plan and we voted for! More reunification talks happening at the moment....no chance whatsoever.
Beckybrox, have a great time, the weather is lovely!!!!!

Hi Magwii,
Lovely to see you are okay. Missed you.
All this talk of your pool is making me even more envious of you living in Cyprus, how wonderful to get up in the morning and jump straight into the pool.
Memories of Cyprus, I have many, and you are living the dream, cant get much better can it?

Hi there
I agree with you - the best side of the island - by far - is the North. I lived there until a couple of years ago and loved it. Wonderful scenery - beautiful mountains and the people so kind and generous. I wish I still lived there.

Hi to all in Cyprus - Nth and Sth !! - How time flies - I returned to UK in November 2004 after - having a house there since 1992 - and living permanently for the previous six yrs - I remember well the build up to the elections for the unification of the island - prior to entry into the eu - and certainly the south did not want unification and were quite open about it - does anybody believe it will ever really happen ?? I too loved this time of year - when the orchards were carpeted in wild flowers - the most gorgeous purples and yellows and the vines were beginning to take on those delicate new leaves - how different in August !! when the sun had scorched almost every uncultivated inch - I miss my beautiful home and the lovely husband I shared it with, the sunshine, the people and the simplicity of an unhurried life - hope to return for a visit at some stage - Have a good summer - Yassas !!
