Is there a book group in Edinburgh or East Lothian
      #369310 - 07/04/2009 14:38

Hi,

Is there a book group in Edinburgh or East Lothian? If not does anyone fancy helping me to start one?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Fi

Hi Fi,
I have just recently joined the forum and saw your post. I too have been seacrching for a book group to join one slight hitch though I live in East Kilbride just outside Glasgow. Maybe we should try to start a Scottish group!! My friend recommended the Twilight series by Stephanie Myers she reckoned it was up there with The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Kahild Hussein ( hope that's the correct spelling!) I prefer Kite Runner etc. Have you read any of these? If you have, what did you think?
Regards,
Fiona

Hi Fiona,

I have read all the Twilight series and really enjoyed them. The Kite Runner was good, haven't read the other one though.

At the mo reading The Sunday Philosophy Club by Alexander McCall Smith, it's ok but much prefer The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency. What are you reading at the mo and what kinds of books do you like?

A Scottish book group would be interesting. We could choose to meet every 2 months in Edinburgh or somewhere central. What do you think? The other way to do it would be for you and I to start and post our thoughts on the forum here and see if we get any interest. Let me know what you think.

Have a Happy Easter.
Best Wishes
Fiona

There is a book group in Edinburgh. I used to hold it in my home but had to opt for a variety of reasons. try contacting Karen-Fiona she's a member (look at Edinburgh Supper Club for her address). Apologies Karen for not asking you first but thought you wouldn't mind.

Hi.

I'm part of the W Lothian book club but I know there is another lady in E. Kilbride( geniej) who is looking for a book club nearby because she was thinking about coming to the W.Lothian group. Maybe you should try sending her a message and set up something nearer to home. There is a group that meets around the Uddingston area once a month. I've seen their messages on the forum.

Hi
Thanks for the info. The group closer to home sounds ideal but also as Fi suggested to keep the conversation going on the forum and perhaps meet somewhere central too. At the moment I am reading The Murder Exchange by Simon Kernick. Being a big crime reader and having read his first book, Relentless, I couldn't wait to get started on this one but I find my attention wandering for some reason. I adore Lee Child's Jack Reacher series and keep a close eye on Waterstones to see when the next one is out! I do enjoy a range of genres and am always looking for something different hence the reason I joined the forum. Thanks for making me so welcome.
Regards,
Fiona

Hi,

I like detective books aswell, have you tried Tami Hoag and James Patterson? Both are very good. Then you have the medical type thrillers aswell by Tess Gerritson, Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs.

Am doing a sponsored read at the moment to raise money for Book Aid International. Started at the beginning of Feb and stop at the end of August - so far 26 books read.

Hope you are well. Think would be good to try and start a wee forum book group.

Cheers
Fi

Hi there I would also be interested in a book group in Edinburgh. A Scottish one sounds good. I like crime fiction, esp the original and best detective Sherlock Holmes, Colin Dexter, Ruth Rendell and mty favourite Robert B Parker. I also love Autobiographies.
