I posted this a couple of days ago when three of us posted together, so thought I'd delete it and save it for another occasion.
My teenage d. had a party the other night and seeing a couple of the boys (I had to phone for their parents to pick them up) made me realise just how toxic alcohol is. I can't imagine giving it up completely(!) but since New Year I haven't drunk any wine and i'm sure this has helped with the weight loss. It's not the calories in the wine - it's the fact that I can't drink wine without wanting to eat as well (I guess that's the body's way of trying to protect itself from the alcohol)
And now that I've stopped drinking it, I don't miss it....
Do you find that wine triggers eating?

Hi Chickadee,
I think the two go together like chalk and cheese, used to love cheese and wine parties (even though wine is not my tipple), loved the cheese.
You very rarely see a local in the Meditteranean drunk, and Im convinced the reason is because whenever they drink, they eat, their stomachs are never empty. I wish more people would take their lead.
If I see you again this year Chickadee, at the rate you are going I wont be able to recognise you, well done anyway.

Afternoon, Chickadee. I quite often find the opposite, that eating triggers wine. If we are eating out I'll always have wine with the meal, and certain meals at home are now associated with wine, eg salmon, broccoli and couscous calls out for a glass of white zinfandel, steak and chips needs a robust red etc.
OH does like nuts or crisps with his wine or beer if we are at home. Trouble is, if he opens a bag of nuts he always gives me some; and after a boys night out he'll often come home starving so it does trigger eating in him.
When I was a teenager I didn't drink alcohol. In those days tonic water was my favourite tipple, and I still enjoy a glass now, but I hate slimline and always ask for "full fat". These days, though, I don't automatically accompany it with a bag of crisps!
I think a lot of this is down to PMK training. I'm much better at thinking about whether I am hungry.
For me, the thing that triggers eating is being social. I was at a girls' night in on Tuesday - DVD and pizza - and I ate a lot more because I was in company and there was lots of food provided. I only drank one glass of wine.
It's not that I don't like alcohol, and I love cocktails (a pudding, a drink and a paper umbrella in one) but years of experience have taught me to beware of the after effects!

Hello Ladies!
Well done on the weight loss Chick
Yes, wine does bring on the munchies and I fall for it every weekend. OH is a naturally slim thing and he eats like it's going out of fashion and I get caught up in it.
On the positive side, PMK has helped and I am often heard saying "no thanks" these days. Something I never used to say!!

Hi Chickadee and Plasmo. Yes, I do find that if I drink wine I want to eat - I've always enjoyed glass (or two!) of wine, more so than any other drink, but try to steer clear as much as I can as I tend to want to eat as well, which means lots of calories! I haven't had any wine since New Year either and don't miss it at all.

Your doing brilliantly chick..well done you.
I can take it or leave it, even on a night out, I can be happy with just one or two drinks.
If you have a few cashews nut or almonds with a glass of wine, they will slow down its sugar convertion, which may stop you from feeling hungry later on. dont over do it tho, else it will boost your fluid retention and dehydrate you, all sounds lovely doesnt it.....everything in moderation I say.

Hi Sella and Patsy - our posts must have crossed! I often drink tonic water, Sella, with a slice of lemon, and would rather have the 'real' one rather than the diet as I don't enjoy the artificial taste of the diet one.

I am going to be different here..........no drinking does not make me want to eat but it does triggers other things. After one glass of wine I always want to dance and party!!!! At my age that can be disastrous.... not that I ever have the opportunity.
Since having the coronary problem I have cut out drinking and now don't miss it. I do have the occassional thought that I desparately want one and give in to it now but there are lots of occasions when I think I will have one later and when later comes I have gone off the idea.
I get very talkative and flirtatious after a glass of wine and now that I am fully aware of this I try and stay away from it. It use to get me into so much hot water...........

Hi mjm - trouble is, only having a few cashews or almonds - I find it very hard to restrict myself!!

Hi Chickadee and everyone
I try to restrict wine to when I'm having a meal and usually only at the weekends. That's not to say that I don't have the occasional glass midweek, but I do try not to. I found that if I was having a glass without food I automatically reached for something savoury. BUT pmk has really helped me overcome that. It's all about being in control. It certainly makes a difference.
AlexP - how I agree, so hard to only have a few!

I try not to 'drink' my calories and have two small glasses of wine a week. There is always wine around as Mr F. likes a glass or three!

Totally agree with all of you munchers, I feel deprived if I can't have a glass, or lets be honest, two, three or so nights a week, but always always give in and sit like a wee girl with a bag of crisps or nuts. Not even ladylike never mind hussylike. I am trying with pmk to lose the deprived feeling, if I felt it was positive I know it would be easier. Also if we are in the pub it is always me who says to OH to bring back nuts as well when he goes for the drinks. I am now using the pmk visualisation to see myself in the future, slim, and feel if I have any regrets about missing foood - I DON'T

Hi ladies,
Fell off the wagon just lately, but am back on track. Have given up Alcohol and replaced it with Tonic water, and although i fancy a drink, i'm not missing it.Have also given up all snacks, eg. crisps and biscuit.
