I'll describe my sitting room, in the hope for advice re what colour cushions to choose.
It has a golden colour oak floor, two tan leather sofas, cream embossed curtains, and a taupe rug.The furniture is oak and the room has a traditional look with lamps, and pictures, photographs on small occasional tables, and glass decanters on display. Up until now I've gone for cushions that pick out the various colours in the room already.A friend suggested going for reds for cushions. She thinks the red on the tan sofas will really go with the traditional warm look and be more dramatic. What do you think?

If you want to play safe stick with creams But yes reds will add some warmth and colour to the room if you would prefer that. Look up some websites with the same sort of sofas and see what they put on. I used to look through Laura Ashley and various others to see what they did with same colour sofa, found something I liked on an M and S pic and stole the idea.
good luck F1 x

I have oak floor, cream sofas, cream walls and cream curtains with a small turquoise flower on in my lounge and have gone for teal coloured cushions and a teal and cream rug. Though I say so myself as shouldn't, it looks lovely.
With such neutral colours, you could go for any colour. Aubergine looks nice with taupe or any purpley colour. Or to brighten things up a bit what about fuschia?
I have tan leather sofas in our garden room and have gone for orange and brown cushions.

Introduce your chosen colour with patterned cushions. Tan and teal, or tan and red as suggested by others. Then add some plain cushions of your chosen colour, and some with a nice texture too. Pick up the colour with fresh flowers or other bits and bobs.
Good Luck

Sainsbury's have some offers on at the mo - 2 velour cusions and a throw for 9.99 - and it comes in a lovely deep red. Worth trying at that price!
They also have some nice red glassware that would pick up the colour too.
