Can anyone give me some advice on the new walking boots I have bought.
I am going on holiday to Sicily next month on a walking holiday and so decided to buy new boots with support around the ankle. Am having trouble getting used to them though and I worry that I never will. They hurt around the ankle but I don't know if this will go away once I get used to them. Is this normal?

I am not sure they will - if they hurt now they will probably always do so. Walking boots dont stretch and give like some shoes. I cn only suggest you take them back and try some others. Good shops will let you try boots at home - wear them around the house , not outside, and if no good , try others.
Good luck . You trip sounds brilliant!

Your boots shouldn't hurt you, my first pair didn't however as they sprang a leak I had to replace them. I bought a pair of karrimors which initially did hurt me round the ankle They didn't rub more they seemed to be catching on a nerve in my ankle region and only on my right foot, I stopped tighten my laces so much and now two years later I don't have a problem with them. I hope this helps and you have a lovely holiday in Sicily.

Thanks both for your advice. Not long after posting I rang a friend and decided I would take them back. Sadly unable to find any others in my size so panic is now on.
Most probably have to take some leave from work to sort it out but my friend knows of a place where they actually fit the boots for you so will try them.
Can't wait for Sicily and walking on the slopes of Mt Etna - will let you both know how it goes.

Mine are always uncomfortable for the first few wears, it's because a good walking boot is fairly rigid to stop your ankles turning etc. A couple of wears and a bit of experimentation with the lacing should get them comfortable around the ankles. Make sure when you try them on you're wearing your usual walking socks and that you have a wander around the shop for a few minutes. My second pair of Karrimor KSB's were fine on the first wear, the first pair took about 20 miles to get comfortable, my Hunters have a higher leg and took some getting used to (I'd not worn walking boots which came up that high before).

Sorry a bit late replying I hope you got your boots. Do you use a travel company for your walking holidays?

Thanks. Am going to get boots fitted tomorrow by an expert so hopefully they will be OK this time. A bit tired of stomping around the house in new walking boots trying to decide if they fit. I'm likley to wear the carpet out soon. Cross your fingers for me tomorrow.
Yes we have booked our holiday with a travel company - not sure if I am allowed to say but it was Ramblers Worldwide.
