He wrote the book in 1948,why not give it a try,and read it? It is v concise, and worth reading...I read it in 1985..not to dark...last 10yrs it appears to be coming true with so much intrusion into privacy, more CCTV than any other country etc,etc...give it go!!!!

I'll definitely be decluttering it

It was slow to start, then got exciting around the middle, then got wallowy around the 3rd quarter and got exciting again around the 7th eighth! I guess it was just the last few pages that seemed hurried!

This was my first read of it though, I may come back to it in 2084.

Aesops Fables is next on my list - I'm on a mission to read the classics - alphabetically!! (Note I'm skipping Aenid!)

I have read them all including Aeneid !! but many many years ago and i cant remember much about any of them....
Dont think i will bother to re read. However I do think 1984 was an amazing forcast into what was then a distant future.....amazing in sight ! and maybe worth a read if you have never read it and have lots of time and dont get bored easily!

I read 1984 at school then read it again a few years ago.
I agree that considering it was written in 1948 it was very forward thinking, and some of it quite true.
I thought most of it ok but the end was an anti-climax.

I'm being thick now but who is Aeneid - I know Easops fables!

I quite fancy some of the Greek mythological stories but think they could be a bit heavy!

Bluebella, it is a poem by Virgil about founding of Rome (1st Century BC) read by classical scholars. Not as exciting as Beuowolf ;0)
You must read the works of Homer (Oddessy) for lots of great myths about Gods/Goddess/heroes etc.

I read 1984 and Brave New World in the early 80s whilst still at school (the trendy things to read along with To Kill a Mocking Bird and Catcher in the Rye). As trend predictors both were scarily accurate.
