my cooker ....HELP!
      #302540 - 10/01/2009 10:01

I have new cooker ( well, new since I moved into this house in May-08) itīs electric with a "smooth top" and itīs been a constant irritation to me cleaningwise and now Iīm desperate, done some twiddling (yes!) in my kitchen this morning and tried to make the top look nice and shiny, but....gaaaahhhhh
Iīm always careful, I always wipe off spillage after cooking, but you canīt wipe when itīs red hot and when itīs cooled off itīs as if itīs too late... tried different kinds of brands for cleaning tops like that, but it never comes out nice...
am I expecting too much?
Does anyone have a cooker like this, and how do you keep the top of it looking fresh??

Hi Maja

The only way I have found is to use a scraper and scrape the gunk off. I hate my creamic top and when I replace my oven I won't be having another one!

Heres a link to give you an idea what I am talking about

Have you tried using ASTONISH on the top?

I used to have a halogen hob, which i assume is what you mean by a smooth top, and always found it really good. I also now use it on my beloved AGA.

Lovely Lady.

How about spraying with Mr Muscle and leaving until it has softened, then cleaning off with a cloth and some Cif/Jif.

Maja, a word of warning - if you spill anything sugary you're stuffed! So careful how you make jam!

Our old ceramic hob came with a razor blade type thing. Can you get Barkeeper's Friend? That worked well too. The oven manufacturers usually have their own stuff, ours came with a paste but also a cream cleanser to protect it too.

HTH!
