My Central Heating Boiler - Cause for Concern
      #298386 - 06/01/2009 12:21

I have a condenser boiler, - the type that throws out lots of steam its about three years old.

I was just outside in my garden and became aware of the noise its currently making - like water bubbling in the kettle fairly loud. Does anyone know if this is normal? I wondered if its something that happens when the weather is extremely cold like it is now or is it something I need to have looked at?

I'm dreading the heating breaking down

I think they would all throw out lots of steam in this weather. How come you hear it in the garden? What part was making the noise?

Our bathroom radiator always makes a crackling noise cos its got bits of debris inside it.

Your system may need bleeding - that is to say, air may have got into the system and is making a gurgling noise. Let the air out of the radiators with a special key. Make sure the system is not pumping round at the time. eg heating off.

Do you regularly check the header tank? This is a tank, usually in the loft and fed by the cold water system. There is a ball cock on the water inlet feed that keeps the water in the central heating system, topped up, and also allows for expansion in the system.

...and no I am not a plumber.

Maybe it's just working very hard for you in this weather, Glitter.

Persevere with the messages as they are like contacting Father Christmas. You never know if they have received your message.

Glitterqueen,

Check the address of your gas supplier. Does it end in Ukraine?

GQ - take the front of the boiler off and check to see if the water pressure is ok. There's a speedometer type clock with a red line that is for the water pressure. We have to top ours up frequently.

I mean the front cover that you're allowed to take off LOL. Don't go poking about with screwdrivers!

Google the make of your boiler, they have amazing websites!
