Hi Ladies
Happy New Year. Hope you are all well?
After a hectic December, and a bad chest infection I've only just started "Skinny Dip" this months choice. (But so far,so good).
Look forward to seeing others reviews, and I'll get mine in ASAP.

Have now finished "Skinny Dip" first of all I have to say I did find some of the "American terminology" quite hard at times to understand but it didn't stop me from enjoying the book. I warmed to the character of Chaz's body guard (sorry can't remember his name at the mo ) especially towards the end. I wish I'd made some notes now before returning the book to the library, think I'll wait a bit till a few more of you have commented and then add some more. Thanks for the recommendation though Elaine. Billie

I first read this book a good few years ago and my copy has survived several clear outs and one house move as I had enjoyed it and fancied reading it again. I didn’t have time pre- Christmas to read anything so I was somewhat glad it was a lightweight novel. I finished it this morning! Lightweight-yes, improbable-yes, but I still found it amusing to watch Chaz get his come-uppence. I did enjoy the ‘don’t get mad, get even’ theme. I too warmed to Earl Edward o’Toole “Tool” for short and I also connected with Rolvaag the Norwegian policeman. All characters were improbable really I suppose, including the Rolvaag’s neighbour worried about his snakes, Maureen the terminally ill lady who befriends Tool, the various women in Chaz’s life and even Joey herself. I didn’t particularly warm to her – she seemed a bit too good to be real! But none of the characters seemed real so that shouldn’t bother me! I enjoyed the slick undemanding storyline (all I can cope with at this time of year).

Thanks for the reminder on names and I agree with you it was good to read about Chaz getting his just rewards. I also didn't take to Joey although till you mentioned it I hadn't really thought about it, She jumped into bed to easily for me. I did like Maureeen though have to say these women who speak there mind and tell a few home truths are appealing. (Feel like doing that myself sometimes, no perish the thought!) Billie

I really enjoyed this book and just what I needed in the run up to Christmas.Very easy to read but didnt want to put it down at all.Wasnt too keen on some of the american turn of phrase,but that really is the only critisism I have at all.I liked most,no I think all,of the main characters,especially Joey and Mick,and felt a teeny bit sorry for Chas even, without whom there would have been no story.And he was stupid!!!
Didnt know the author or the title before but thanks a lot Elaine for the recommendation.A nice start to the year.

Thanks for the recommendation. This book was just right at a busy time. It was good that Chas got his just desserts (like this to happen although it doesn't always). He really wasn't very bright. Agree that Joey a bit too good to be true but as whole novel rather tongue in cheek that was O.K.

Happy New Year everyone! I've just finished this month's book so it's still fresh in my mind. I must admit I didn't think this would be my cup of tea but I actually really enjoyed it. So what if the plot was slightly unbelieveable (actually, totally unbeliveable)the characters were brilliantly drawn especially Tool who seems to be everybodys favourite although he was the only one who murdered anybody albeit the baddie. The author also managed to raise the issue of pollution in the Everglades without coming across as preaching. I would be interested to know if anybody has read any other books by Carl Hiaasen and what they thought of them.

Just finished. Thanks Elaine for a really good choice. As most I liked "Tool", and I also like the unbelievable. Great escapism that I've enjoyed these last couple of weeks (read a little each night!!)

I have just finished Skinny Dip apologies for late post.
I have to admit I got off to a slow start with this book, as like Billie I coldn't get on with the Americanisms - there seemed to be a lot of them. But for me it did slow the pace of the story down. The humour was black and on some occasions remined me of a Cohen Brothers film - such as Fargo, did anyone else think this? In fact this book would make a very good film as there were a lot of visual humour that would work well - like the shooting of Ricca in the swamp, Chaz being bitten by the mossies. I have to agree Tool was my favourite character, Joey came accross as an all action heroine, which didn't feel right with the marriage to Chaz. The story was very tounge in cheek and the ending superb - what a good way for Chaz to go. Thanks Elaine for choosing this book - I would not have chosen it myself, but I certainly will be passing it on to friends.

After reading a few pages I really didn't like the book at all but never having been in a book club (virtual or otherwise) wasn't sure what the etiquette was - whether you had to be polite and finish it or not - so I logged on to read what others had thought. It was Peppermintpattie's comment about it being a bit like Fargo (which I love) which persuaded me to soldier on and after a few more pages......I really, really enjoyed it.
It is totally improbable but it is a cracking good read and I'm quite sad now to have finished it. Like everyone else I liked Tool (although not at first - all those references to his hairness put me off) and Rolvaag.
Thank you for introducing me to something I would never have read otherwise and thank you PP for your comment which made me continue reading.

I have just finished Skinny Dip and thoroughly enjoeyed it. It wasn't a book I would have read without the recommendation of the book club so glad that I have joined 'Eyes Down'. I thought the characters were all great I liked Rolvaag best. Thanks for the reommendation I am looking fgorward to next month's read.
