chicken breast and veggies stir fried, you can add whichever sauce or spice combination you like, then add some straight to wok noodles, easy, healthy and yummy...... and all in one pan

Do you have electricity? I'm sure you must have. I would recommend a slow cooker. You can cook loads of things in a slow cooker, leaving the gas burners for the veggies. Perfect!
How exciting. I would love to spend some time in a narrow boat!

We've got a really good 1 pot recipe book - http://www.amazon.co.uk/101-One-pot-Dish...651&sr=8-1. It's dead small too so should fit nicely into the limited space!!!

Cook any meats by browning in a pan with onions. Add stock, or just a little soy sauce and water, and cook through. In the second pan cook all your vegetables by putting them in at the right time, ie carrots first, potatoes next, lighter veg like broccoli or cauliflower last. Or, cook all the veg in with the meat by adding more stock to the pan.

If you have electricity, you can save a gas ring by making couscous as your carb element. Just soak in boiling water for around 5 mins (may depend on brand so check before you buy) and it's ready to eat.

Have to agree with MT on this one, we got a slow cooker as our Christmas Pressie from MIL and it was used last night.
You can make fab soups, casseroles, chilli's...economical and very tasty.

Silver have you checked the instructions of the slow cooker we found some at the back of ours.
PM me if you are still stuck and I will copy them out for you - you could also google slow cooker recipes.
Just found this link...http://www.slowcookerrecipes.org.uk/

HI I have used mine everyday fro the past week! Did chilli last night-fantastic. I have found loads of recipes by putting 'crockpot recipes' in google. They are American but easily adaptable. I did a curry which came out really spicy but then I read that if you put in dry/powdered spices they do seem stronger so perhaps use a little less and adjust later. I think it's going to be something that never actully gets put away!!

People swear by the Remoska Polish cooking system - available from Lakeland. It is like a slow cooker but apparently much more adaptable. These things usually come with a recipe book. If you have Delia's Summer book = we love the chicken basque recipe.

Hiya. I too spend lots of time on my Narrowboat, so I know what you have to deal with!. I've used loads of adaptations of the Weightwatchers Healthy One Pots. It's a little booklet with 40 low fat recipes - easy 30min suppers, flavour packed soups, new ideas for chicken and tasty vegetarian ideas (not my words!) Published by BBC magazines. came with the BBC Good Food guide. I have used at least half of them on the boat - really easy in one shallow pan too, all done on the hob. If you have loads of trouble, I can scan and email you the recipes.

Dutch smoked sausage casserole. Use any veg you have available Fry onion, carrot, celery, red pepper till soft. Add tin of tomatoes and some extra water, a tin of drained rinsed beans - haricot or any other variety and some precooked potato cut into quarters ( i usually cook in microwave as stay firmer). You can add other veg that cooks quicker such as courgette or green beans now. Add sliced smoked sausage and simmer for a few mins till all hot. One Mattesons sausage ring makes enough for 3 people. The quantities for veg are all variable - you know best how hungry you are! This is really cheap - less than 3 pounds.

Base for any meat dish
Put a teaspoon of oil in a medium saucepan and turn on a low heat. Chop an onion and a garlic clove. Add to pan, and while cooking cut lamb or pork or beef into pieces and roll in seasoned flour. Add meat and leave to brown, stirring. Chop mushroom, carrots, red pepper to a dice and add to pan. Add a jar of tomato based sauce and rinse out jar with hot water and a slug of wine and add to pan. Season, add a couple of bay leaves and bring to boil. Turn down and leave to simmer (covered) until meat is tender. You can add potatoes, spaghetti or rice to the pan for a one dish meal.
I also do this with mince, but I always put the mince into a dry pan and heat slowly until brown. I then put several layers of kitchen towel on a large plate and tip mince on to it. I cover with more kitchen towel and blot mince. This absorbs a lot of excess fat. I wash out pan before using it again.
I usually make this meal in advance and leave to cool and put in fridge. This improves the flavour and means I can lift off the excess fat which rises to the top.
