OK, I accept I have to exercise more in 2009.
I have a treadmill in the garage and a normal bicycle. How and when should I be doing what?
I hate exercise but I'm smart enough to know if I do it I can eat what I like
Anyone got a Wii Fit thingybob? Should I try a mini-trampoline, a skipping rope, anything?

Good afternoon Mrs Twiddle,
What ever you decide to do start off slowly and gradually building up how much you do over a few weeks.
On your treadmill start off at a walking pace and build this up over a few weeks and then increase the speed that you are walking. You should still be able to hold a conversation while you are walking so my instructor used to say.
You have to do something you enjoy the more variety you put in to it the better. If you did the same thing every day every week for months you would get bored. Just doing 20 mins a day is better than doing nothing.
I have to start all over again in 2009 as I cracked my ribs in July and they are only just healed (although this phlemy cough has caused problems with them again).
I loved boxing as it was a great stress reliever and now have to fine something less energetic to start off with. So I am going to do some of my exercise DVD's.
Good luck with what ever you decide to do. Housework around the house to loud music is still good exercise as well Mrs Twiddle.

Thank you HappyTigger! I hurt my knee after walking on the treadmill every day for 30 minutes earlier last year so I think I'll just do every other day for a start. I get very bored though. Maybe I'll take my laptop out there and read up on the forum!
Good luck with your ribs, that must have hurt!

Hello Mrs T. I walk to and from work each day...half an hour each way. I also potter all the time and fidget a great deal. Is that enough do you think?

Skipping's great for the heart...I did 100 skips before porridge a fortnight ago, thought I'd started something good and haven't done any since! Got a couple of fitness DVDs for Christmas but feel tired thinking about it. I walk a lot but MUST do some fat-burning exercise. Mrs T and everyone- how on earth do you get the motivation to even start???!!!!

Yes, it is, some of the things I am useless at. It weighs you and tells you your BMI which is the scarey bit, also your wii fit age, which has ranged from 37, 55, 28 then 47, depending when I did the test!!!I am 50!!! The tests are balance etc mostly and there is lots of choice of things to do. I have had a go at the Wii sport that someone lent me, that has tennis, bowling etc

Hi there, Mrs T, I'm another one who got a Wii fit for Christmas - a total surprise. Do you think OH is trying to tell me something? It's great fun, but too soon to say if it's doing me any good. I think it will encourage me to do yoga.
mjm has a mini trampoline which she uses but I've got too many bouncy bits for that kind of thing.
Several of us use Rosemary Conley's Slim and Salsacise, which is good if you like to dance, and I like Davina's Power of Three for the upper body workout.
I also like to go swimming, but don't manage it as often as I'd like.

Walking! Lots of walking. I did 6 miles today and 5 miles the day before yesterday, and if you do it with someone else it's very sociable. We have a group of 5 walkers and we get together whenever we can, once or twice a week and involve OH's when possible.
Dancing is great fun too and brilliant exercise. I have to do something that is fun. A gym wouldn't do it for me but a walk and a good laugh is wonderful for mind and body.

Hi
I got Wii Sports and Wii Fit for Christmas. Can't get the kids off it though. Love it especially the tennis and the aerobics. Today I have worked out for 30 mins without leaving the lounge. I do horse riding as well but really enjoy the whole thing. My 10 yr old was up at 7.00am ski slaloming.

I would suggest fitting some exercise into your daily life. I walk to work everyday (about 40 minutes) and always use the stairs and not the lift.
Find some exercise you enjoy - I do one Body Jam Dance class and yoga three times a week. Also a small amount of stomach crunches on the Swiss Ball and some free weights each time I visit the gym.

I try to walk for about 40 minutes every day. It's lonely without a walking buddy though. Now that the weather is sooo cold it's a real effort but needs must and all that. I found that it takes about 2 weeks before you start seeing the benefits.
What about your local council leisure centre for keep fit classes? Ours is free to over 60's , and that's using any of the facilities from the pool to the gym,or the over 50's keep fit is £1.75 per session (one hour)

Hi ll We just got the Wii sport and fit too. Have only looked so far but played tennis and thought it was brill. can't wait for children to get off to school so I can really get into it. A woman who works with OH reckons she has dropped two dress sizes since using heres 30 minutes a day!! I walk most days anyway but can see it being good when it's really miserable with rain etc outside!
Have you all registered them so you can play the games against each other-I did todau and it's really easy. If anyone wants to I can give you my details via PM and we can have a game of tennis, run against each other etc!!
