Hysterectomy – a New Year present
      #285636 - 21/12/2008 15:28

After months of waiting I’ve just received my letter of invite for a hysterectomy (suction type) in the New Year and I’ve just realised how ill prepared I am!

Any advice would be appreciated on what I can expect after the op recovery wise.

Driving?
Exercise (I swim a lot)?
Returning to work (booo)?
How long I can expect to be waited on hand and foot? lol

I am so looking forward to booking a holiday in 2009 without counting out the weeks on the calendar first!

Thanks
Montana

Hi Montana, welcome to the forum. I had a hysterectomy in April along with a few other things removed also, I think they thought while we are in here!!
I'm not sure how much you are loosing, ie both ovaries, so not sure how much my op will be like yours. Please feel free to pm me and I will help in anyway I can.

Me too but it was a good few years ago now. Pm if you think I can be any help. You will be helping yourself with the swimming though. Good luck.

Hi Montana,

I had a suction hysterectomy when I was 42/43, and to be honest I was absolutely fine, I think I was home within 3 days and driving on the 4th, had no pain whatsoever....none to complain of that is.

Hysterectomy isn't what it used to be, when you were sent to convelescence for 6 weeks !

You will be fine and will be so glad you had it done.

Good luck.

I had a hysterectomy in January 2002 (traditional not suction) and immediately felt at least 10 years younger. It was about 6 weeks until I was able to drive but far less being waited on hand and foot. I wouldn't hesitate to book a holiday in the Summer of 2009.

Hi - I'm due to have a hysterectomy (including tubes and ovaries) to deal with a borderline ovarian cyst. I'm only just starting all my research on it, but I haven't yet heard about the two types of op - suction and traditional.

Can anyone tell me what the differences are? I need to recover as fast as I can, with minimum bedrest, and out of hospital ASAP, but I also need to ensure that everything comes out as 'cleanly' as possible, especially my ovaries, so as to reduce any risk of them 'bursting' and spreading what MAY be early-cancer cells into my body.

Many thanks folks. Julie

PS - if anyone knows of any good hysterectomy forums, please do say! Thanks again.
