Hi their !!

Well I store things like spuds and onions in a cold dark place like in a bowl in a cupboard, other items in the bottom of the fridge.

I seem to find no matter how I store them they go off very quickly - I've started buying more and more frozen so as not to waste them.

I store pots, and onions in a wicker basket on my thingmy jig wooden trolley thing, and my carrots, broccoli, squash, cabbage, cauli in the fridge.

BUT my Tomatoes (which I know are not a veg)are ALWAYS (and I'm not shouting Lillie ) in a bowl on the kitchen table, and never in the fridge, they loose their flavour when they are freezing cold. Ask any Tomatoe grower he will tell you, room temperature only.

Oh yes Snowy I forgot to say that I too do not store tomatoes in the fridge.

I used to until I discovered like you said they should be at room temperature. It took some convincing that Snowy to my OH but he does what I say now lol

I keep root veggies in the garage and tomatoes at room temperature. I heard that onions and potatoes should never be stored together - anyone know anything about that.

PS: Snowy, you WERE shouting at Lillie.

Root veg in basket in kitchen (except carrots - they seem to dry out really quickly unless you stick them in the fridge). Everything else in salad tray in fridge (including until now, tomatoes!).

I bought 25 kilos of potatoes from the farm shop to save buying expensive small bags from the supermarket.
OH won`t use them, says they have gone soft, they are not fresh.I don`t know where he thinks the shop ones have come from, I am sure they are not digging them out of the ground in this weather.Grrrrrrr

I tend to keep all veg in their plastic wrapping from supermarket, but for some reason, before putting them all in fridge, open the wrapping so they can breathe. Have no idea if this is the best way to store fresh fruit and veg, but would love to know if it's not a good way. I always have to hurry and use them before they go off, which is a hassle. I also buy organic so quite expensive.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi

MuccaCarolina - I do same as you opening the plastic bags. I find that the bottom of my fridge stuff gets frozen, but if I put it in the cupboard then things sprout and go off really quickly.

Pysche - why not put eggs in the fridge? I have been storing eggs in fridge for ages and use them well past their sell by date to no ill effect.
