And it does actually work! just hold up the page with all the sample colours on and look in a mirror ( or even better, get someone else's opinion.) It's not set in stone, but I certainly wont wear black as a main colour again. It also explained why I just dont feel good in certain outfits.

A quick way is to ask yourself if you look better in gold or silver. Gold is warm, silver is cool.
Millions have been spent turning this into a science to confuddle us!

Or try yourself with White or Cream.
White is cool.
Cream is warm.
It's usually obvious straight away which of these suit you better.

Sorry should have then said that cooler colours will then be colours such as Red Emerald Yellow etc whereas warmer colours would be Terracotta Khaki or Mustard. That's it at its most basic but obviously there are so many shades of every colour you could do with a chart!

Strange isnt it, I can wear cream but white is not quite right but I can wear emerald green but not khaki. Got to be clear bright colours for me. Had colours done once and was a Spring. Still dont know if that means I suit cool or warm colours.

I had my colours done years ago. If I follow 'the rules' and wear one of the colours I should wear that is the time I will get compliments about how well I look. I know its because of the colour because I know as far as fit, style etc I look a bugger

Thank you ladies for all the helpful replies !!
I think I may be a warm colour person. I def suit gold jewellery not silver and colours like orange, mustard, olive rather than blues, reds and turquoise ( which I love ! ) I have med fair skin that does tan slightly and my hair is highlighted ash blonde,my natural colour is a dark ash blonde. I dyed it myself last summer and it went very brassy yellow and it made my face look very ruddy, having it dyed darker has taken the ruddiness away, thank god for that !! Thanks for the info re: books to read and I'll try holding different colours up to my face too.
Have a great weekend everybody XX

Had my colours done many years ago and it has saved me a fortune is wrong buys. Basically, cool colours have a blue overtone, and warm have a yellow overtone - that's the best way I can explain. For instance, I can wear red, but it has to be a bright, almost orangey red, put me in say a crimson red and I look awful. Forgot to say that I am a bright spring, best colours - cream, creamy yellow, coral, salmon pink, soft greens, duck egg blue etc. I look as if I have already died if I wear black, dark navy etc and brown is a killer too. I do wear dark colours, but always with one of my best colours near my face, a scarf, bright blouse etc. My daughter is an autumn, who also wear warm colours, but her best ones are dusty pinks, khaki, olivey greens, soft browns, taupe etc, with corals, salmon pink as highlights. Summers and Winters are the cool colours. I rattle on, sorry, but have always been a keen advocate for 'having your colours done'. Cheers - Pidge

I'm intriged now...do people still do "colours"? I remember lots of people having girls nights in about 10-15 years ago where they had a woman come and do everyone's colours but its not something I've heard of since. I've no idea what I'd be as I think I can wear white and cream. I prefer silver jewellery but not necessarily because it suits better... Maybe I should try and find someone.
