I hate shopping for jeans - you take 30 pairs into the changing room and none fit or look half-decent. I love jeans, I live in jeans - but it seems they are falling out of love with me. I'm short - bum's bigger than tummy, but i don't like the low-cut waists that leave my tum overhanging, but I don't want to go back to high waists that strangle my internal organs. I would love to find a shop that gives advice and suggests which jeans might be best to try.

Yvonne,
There was a post a while ago about a web site, that sells these American Jeans, that catered for every size, shape, etc, and some of the girls were saying how brilliant they were, I wish I could remember the name of the company let alone the site, lets hope someone else will read your post and might just be able to remember and help you.

Plasmo - I think the jeans you are talking about are Seven. They seem to look good on any shape and size.
I actually had a great experience in Levis recently - went into the one in Bluewater, and said, "as you can see, I am short, with big bum, and pair shaped - what have you got" - she gave me a pair to try on and I loved them, thankfully they were from the 40 quid range rather than the 80 quid range!
In this day and age where shop assistants have zero product knowledge I was well impressed

Gap are generally quite good & the assistants know what they're talking about. Unfortunately I still can't get any that fit me

Don't dismiss M&S entirely. I have a pair of Per Una jeans with stretch in them and not low-waisted and they fit perfectly.

Hi MancGirl,
What no. are the Levis? Sounds like a lot of us could do with these.

I think they might be NYDJ. Not your daughters jeans. Lots of info if you google them. I haven't found a local supplier yet though.

I have got some NYDJ. They are v. comfy, but tend to lull you into a false sense of security, because when you put your ordinary ones back on again, you really feel the difference. Also, they are very expensive. I have never paid that much for a pair of jeans before.

Thanks for all the feedback - I will try NMDJ - i'm going to the states next month and will have a search. Levi's seem to rely on the old theory of a waist-hip ratio that I don't have; and Gap, well, my behind means that extra fabric hangs out at the rear giving me that lovely plumber's bum look.

I also have the NYDJ and really recommend them. They are far better than any others I've tried. Going to US should be an ideal opportunity to get them.

Hi yvonne
I live in a pair of Levis that are slightly stretchy.I wasn`t sure at first as they were quite low but you get used to it and now I couldn`t wear high waisted jeans again.

In reply to your question about finding jeans that fit, I personally find the Marks and Spencer Per Una label very good. I am 5ft 3 and a size 16, which is quite small height wise, and I find it difficult to find jeans that are not too long. Also Per Una jeans are quite reasonably priced and they stretch and are very comfortable to wear. They have different styles and since I discovered them, I won't buy my jeans anywhere else. I always find the staff are very helpful and will bring jeans to the dressing room and let you try on several pairs/ sizes. In the past, I have told them my size and they have brought me a selection of jeans to try on. I hope this is helpful.

Yvonne, I'm a different shape than you (got no bum to speak of ) but I've always had a hard time finding jeans to fit too. I finally found some at J Jill. I had to do my own searching while I was in the shop, but I was amazed that I found jeans that fit me so well. They offer a variety of fits. If you have time when you're in the States it might be worthwhile taking a look.
