Hi Scarp. Wish i suited hats but I don't at all. I think wearing glasses can change how you look so when I put a hat on all you see is glasses and a face!! There are some beautiful hats around and I really wish i suited them.

Hats are lovely. I am not, I look grim in a hat. D looks fab so she wears one if having a bad hair day.

i love hats so much Scarpers that I trained to be a City and Guilds qualified couture milliner. I'd love to have a workshop and be surrounded by sinamay and milliners wire and sil flowers and parasisal and bukram and petersham and fabrics and stiffener....Ok you get the idea. Unfortunately couture hats have a very limited market and i think my skills area little rusty.

Oh no GQ, I haven't changed - I said 'I'd love to....' meaning that I am still in haulage, as much as I would love to faffle about with millinery.

I meant the other way around Chilla - starting out and training as a milliner and then ending up in haulage. Any regrets about not sticking with the hats?

Ah! I see what you mean! Actually I started out as a forklift driver, went into haulage and trained to be a milliner 3 years ago. I really ought to make myself clearer!

I like them as long as they've got a fairly large brim. Put a small hat on someone of my height and girth and it looks, as my mother used to say, like "a pimple on the Rock of Gibraltar!"
She was a great one for sayings, my mother!! She was also a great one for hats. On one of the first occasions my OH visited my parent's house, my Mum had put one of her hats, a round, dark brown, fur beret-type thing onto the chair in the hall, ready to take upstairs. My soon-to-be OH bent down to stroke it. He thought it was a cat!!!

I love hats. I saw some beautiful caps in Monsoon a couple of weeks ago but they were so high up I couldn't reach them and I couldn't find an assistant to help

Just in case anyone is interested in making hats here is the link to where I learned. The lady who runs it is as mad as a , erm, hatter but totally talented and such a font of knowledge of all things millinery and costume.

The bottom left hand hat (it's a juliet actually) in white and mint green looks suspiciously like one of mine.

How fantastic Chilla, what an interesting hat website.....
I am all fingers and thumbs when it comes to sewing or knitting anything, but give me a tube of glue and I am in seventh heaven !!
Wearing my black angora trilby today with a little 1.5" treble clef sparkly brooch on it and a little pearl hat pin to keep it on my head on the other side......weather a bit windy down here today !!
Scarp xx

I actually hate wearing hats because when I put them on(doesnt matter which shape or material) all you can see is my nose!!!!

I love hats. Cloche, wide brimmed, cowboy, you name it...I possibly have one!
Chilla, you are one talented lady! What an interesting site and beautiful hats.
Chrissi, give me a shout next time you are going shopping and I will come and climb up the shelves for you!!
Scarp, I have my eye on this one from Celtic Sheepskin for the winter, it would be ideal at the farm...but OH says I will look like a demented spaniel in it

I can understand the problem that some ladies have over spoiling the hair but mine is long and straight. When I take the hat off...it remains long and straight....problem solved!
