Do we really need an advert for an agency offering 'illicit relationships for married people' .
I'm lost for words.

You have got to be joking!!!! That is terrible!!! We have to watch our language, but W&H lets sleazy adverts slip through the net!! That is most definitely NOT ON!! As a widow albeit now single woman, I occasionally have a nosey around some decent online dating (seeking partner, or marriage) sites, I am enfuriated and disgusted enough by the number of married/attached men who appear on these sites wanting a bit on the side. And now W&H of whom I would never have expected this, places an advert of an agency promoting sadness and misery into partnered peoples lives. Downright disgusting!!

I find adverts like that very upsetting as my husband of 23 years has been having an affair for 3 years - I am now divorcing him after keep taking him back - and I am the one left behind with the heartache and feelings of despair at times.
Luckily I have 2 wonderful children, 21 and 18, my dogs, sister and friends to support me through the very bad times and pain I have experienced.
These adverts should be banned!

Totally agree with what has been said here.
I personally think the whole Directory at the back for that matter in the W&H magazine is tacky and worse than a freebie one gets in the post or slotted in the magazine as it is fixed and part of the issue.
Is it there to stay? Yet more adverts and yes such a shocking one included on the last page of The Shopping Directory! Please this isn't an illicit magazine its WOMAN AND HOME for goodness sake, it lowers the whole tone of the magazine.
If one wants such things you can buy magazines for just that!
Not a pleasure to see in W&H magazine To top it all there was a sex toy advert as well on the same page!!!
We have magazines and shops for such things as these! NOT IN W&H MAGAZINE PLEASE

Actually having looked at it you raise a good point.
Also dubious are the adverts for Clairvoyants on very expensive telephone lines and "colleges" who offer home study courses so that you can become a writer. A friend of mine sent for a course which promised that she would become a top interior designer. It was very expensive and very very basic. But it did come in a nice folder!
What really annnoys me are the pages and pages of adverts for massages and saunas in my local paper.
You could try complaining to W&H Alibali. But I doubt that they will listen (as usual)

Wholeheartedly agree with what everyone says here!! And yes, Debbie, I too have been rather gobsmacked about that advert regarding some sex toy!! You are right, that does NOT belong in W&H!!! There is a place for these things, if someone wants these, and that most definitely is NOT W&H!!!!

Have PM the moderator and hope they take note. With so many double pages of glossy adverts in the magazine each month W&H must be raking it in!!
Perfumes and clothes may be just but now I...... s.. , s.. toys, costly clairvoyant lines what next ????
We should all PM the moderator now before it turns into a totally tacky and D.... magazine.
I feel for poor JanineH. It must be so horrid seeing such an upsetting thing in the magazine. [] [] [] Big hugs from me dbverycherry xx
N.B the dots are there .... so W&H don't edit this post out! Dirty !

Ah but would W&H be infringing the advertisers human rights or committing an "ISM" if they refused them!!!!!!
Seriously the collection of ads this month is rather odd to say the least.

I never ever read those pages, but now having looked I agree. Do not want adverts encouraging married people to be unfaithful through a tacky advert. I had heard about this site following The Mistresses series on TV, apparently the site 'membership' rose alarmingly!!!!

I absolutely agree, but unfortunately 'money talks'. Presumably these adverts generate income, and without the income the price of the magazine goes up.
I for one would prefer the magazine to drop these adverts and make some savings on the fashion shoots. For the life of me I can't see the point of flying to Austrailia just to photograph a few clothes. Simplistic I know, but I'm sure that they could easily recoup the income generated from these adverts somewhere.

barbarap2, I completely agree with you about the magazine shoots! There are photographic studios in all major cities for Heavens sake, no-one needs to go to a tropical island with fashion assistants, make-up artists, hairdressers etc!.
I was first aware of the cost of this when travelling to Mauritius from Paris with Air France. The seats in front of us were occupied by some gorgeous looking youngsters. As it was a long flight, we made friends with them and it turned out they were photographic models, all booked into top hotels and the first few days of the 'work' was to get a suntan!! They were lovely people though, and shared their champagne with us throughout the 13 hours. My French got steadily worse of course(!)

Oh come on W & H listen to your readership. Smutty adverts??!?!?!? why do W & H readers need them? This is so not necessary together with photo shoots abroad. There is enough fabulous scenery around Great Britain to snap piccies, think of the money saving and you are not adding to the damage to the planet.

funny, I had the same thought myself as I was flicking through last night - the classifieds are decidely low-brow this month! agree that the whole clairvoyant thing is ridiculous - what a rip off! dating agencies are fine - afterall we have to meet men somehow. the vibrator ad.? well, if even anne summers is in the high street these days.... it's not harming anyone buying a buzzing wand, I suppose. but taking money from a company designed to promote and encourage adultery (for want of a less old-fashioned word!)...? not sure. not really the thing we need, not when you hear the heartache caused by infidelity on this forum. it's just tacky.

Just checked back and the advert for Illicit Encounters was in the March and February issues. I must check as far back as I can and see how long the ad has been running. (I keep all my older mags at work for the students. They need adverts and pictures for projects). Saying that, I hardly ever look at the ad pages which probably is why I haven't noticed this one.

Hi there! I'm a 'newbee' at this game, but it is obviously worth having a bad cold and staying off work!
Anyway, I was very interested in the comments on the Shocking Advert. I agree that there is enough temptation around these days without actually advertising for it. I'm far from being a prude - I won't begin to tell you how my present OH and I got together, but I think advertising illicitness is rather over the top. It's just another angle in the old 'slippery slope', don't you think?

OMG gals- where have you all been these last months? Those adverts are in every issue and have been for ever and a day!
The illict affair one is I think for those wanting a bit of you know what on the side and staying within their relationship.
As you all know I have been on dating sites trying to find a BF- got one now- but there are a lot of married men on the normal dating sites looking for intimate affairs- basically because they are happy at home with their partners but the sex life is not what they seek. I have spoken to a number of them just spoken mind to try and understand why my Hubby had done such things. It's helped me understand.
And just like we come on here and 'chat' a lot of guys go on line to chat and they like chatting to women! Others are on there for one thing only too! And shock horror a lot have been at it discreetly for a number of years!

So the adverts have been there for ever and a day, I've only been a reader for a few months.
Its obvious what the illicit affair one is for, there's no 'think' about it, its why people have found it objectionable.
I can't comment on the rest of your post because it really has me puzzled, I know you're saying something but I'm at a loss as to what it is. I think its probaly better that I am.

you go girl!
I know loads of people who met via such agencies ... and ... wait for it ... I met my (almost) perfect husband on such a site!!
I'm a bit amazed at the ad in W&H though! pretty poor taste I must say, but I'm not offended by a sex toy advert in the magazine. Some women who would be embarassed to buy a sexy magazine may be thankful to find one in W&H.

I have just caught up with this thread. I've noticed that agency advertising all over the place - it shocks me everytime because I just think what it is doing is completely wrong. Call me old fashioned, but this isn't the promotion of a bit of fun for people who are missing something in their marriage, it's making money out of heartbreak and betrayal. Why ANY magazine would promote this activity is beyond me, let alone W&H. For anyone who is offended, I would suggest writing into the magazine to protest. I know I will!
