I have copied this fromthe Your Lives section (good idea Stylo) so there's no need to "sign" this one as well, but...
Dear W&H, this is a petition from your loyal forumers aka catchment area for articles for the magazine.
We are overwhelmed by new posts and would like to get to know new forumers better. This is made difficult, nay impossible, by the fact that "Active Posts" is only active to a certain point. After which, it loses the will to live and all posts relegated to page 2 stay there despite frantic posting to move them back to page 1, subsequently dropping to page 3 and into the oblivion that is Chronology.
We ask you "do something complicated and IT" (dreckly) to make any thread with a new post automatically wing its way to the very top line on page one of Active Posts, thus:
1. restoring our faith in the powers that be 2. allowing us to really stay up-to-the-minute, on-trend, empowered and totally with it (the average W%H reader's profile) 3. making it much easier to follow this endearing, exciting and often ennervating forum
The undersigned

I'm going to sign it anyway as part of my (so far) one woman mission to keep this topic at or near the top of page one of the active topics.

Ok so the other thread with all the replies has dropped to the next page, even though it has more recent replies on it than this one and was originally posted at the same time.
How daft is that?

This could send us all barmy before the night's out - let's organise shifts. I'm on little one's tea as of half five here but can cover the 8-10pm shift (7-9pm uk time) Anyone to relieve Ren meanwhile when her fingers drop off?

Come on, or have you all sidled off when we weren't looking - and I'm typing from under the desk to avoid fallout on another thread... Signing off until 7 pm - Ren looks like you're on your own dear.

Well I would usually say that playing on the forum is better than working. But this afternoon I have been working on a dvd with the lovely Ben Shepherd in it. (how hard can that be?)
Well in between breaks to get this to W&H's attention.

I am back again - had to go shopping and find a lost dog but I'm voting with my fingers.
Perhaps Pippa is away. She usually answers our questions. Are you there Pippa?

Pippa has replied, don't know if her tips will work but we need to try it.

OK so this has now dropped to the second page as well, despite all our efforts and despite the fact that it has more recent comments on it than the last post on the first page.
I an only suggest that we all start separate threads on this. maybe then we can keep some of them on the first page.
Several people have said that they didn't realise that topics were also recenlt active on the second page so it must be very confusing for anyone who has just joined.

other websites have the topics with the most recent replies on top, any reply automatically forces the topic back to pole position, so why can't W & H manage it?

I keep checking in hope of a result and am keeping up the pressure on W&H IT team to sort this out once and for all. And to give you SusiQ rest and peace over the present sad state of The Active Topics list. Still Truly A Problem. The ones that are active should be appearing at the top of the list in order of when they were last active in other words!
For Susi and us others W&H IT team please give us a well earned rest from our soap boxes.

Just PM W&H moderator Pippa_Jackson about this issue as my fingers are beginning to wear out typing and adding to this post for TRULY ACTIVE TOPICS to be JUST THAT please!!! Surely the W&H IT team can work their magic

Please sort the Active Topics list out. It is just plain silly when those posts that are truly active and have only been posted on the forum today and in the last hour appear on page 3 or later!

Morning W&H website IT fixing team. Any chance of fixing the Active Topics list to be just that? Meaning those Topics that are truly active appearing at the top of the list and not on page 3 and beyond! Ta

Did a bit of checking last night...... Someone had posted on the lengthy TAT thread at 17:06 PM yesterday..... and guess what??? IT WAS NOT TO BE FOUND IN THE "ACTIVE TOPICS" LIST!!!! "Our" thread did NOT show up at all!!! Posts on threads made after 17:06 PM, and before 17:06 PM were on the "Active Topics" List, but NOT our lengthy thread.... that was nowhere to be found!!! And it had sunk last that I know to page 4 in "something Lives..."....

I have asked our technical team to look into the Active Topics question. It has taken some time as we have had other technical issues that have been a higher priority.
The basic answer is that the Active Topics area is functioning properly. It highlights the most active topic rather than the most recent post. I appreciate that some of you would prefer it to sort posts in a different way, but this is the way that our forums have been designed to function.

Pippa, thanks for the explanation, but could you explain what a most "active topic" is at this point? Does it mean one that has had more "hits" - so how come even when the TAT petition was in its absolute frenzy it still dropped on the active posts board??
Perhaps the way the forums have been designed to function is a way that not just "some" of us would like to see revolutionised, but "a lot" of us find very annoying. May it be a good idea to take a look in this direction.
As it is, unless you visit every single forum (and I notice there are even more now) you miss out on recent posts, unless of course they correspond to "active posts". To get a global view of recent posts, you have to visit all the forums as active posts pushes even recent posts to the back of queue. I don't find that very useful.

Not rocket science. We would like Active Topics to be just that! The latest truly active and viewed topics to appear in order on the list latest on the first page and in the correct time order and not the random mess we are seeing right now on the Active Topics list which frankly is no help what so ever. Thanks from dbverycherry
