Hi everyone,
I am taking my OH for a surprise birthday to Edinburgh. We have never been there and as we are going on the 16th of December I think it will be quite magical.
As I don't know the City can anyone recommend a really good, special restaurant where one can celebrate a birthday in style?
I would be very grateful at any suggestion you may have

Ciao italian06,

Not sure what kind of thing you like food wise. There are a few very well reviewed Michelin starred places in Leith (you'd need to get a taxi from town centre but its not too far) eg. The Plumed Horse, The Kitchin, Martin Wishart. The restaurant at the Balmoral Hotel is also Micheln starred. These places all have websites if you want to check them out.
One of the best meals I had was at The Tower restaurant at the Museum of Scotland. Its a few years ago now so not sure if its still as good. I am sure there will be other ladies who know Edinburgh better than me and can give you some more tips.
If you like a few cocktails before can I suggest the Voodoo Rooms?

There is a great fish restaurant in Leith called Fishers. Can also recommend The Witchery on the Royal Mile.

Have fun.

Italian06,
My husband comes from Edinburgh, and there is a wonderful place that I can't remember the name of, that used to be a bank.Outside the building they blow artificial snow in December and it's the most Christmassy atmosphere...it just works!
I'll ask him to recommend a few places.

Thank you
I would appreciate some advise on that, I want to give him a very special birthday because he has not been well in the past. So I do want something magical and the snow part you mention sounds really good

Hi,
It's called The Dome, at the east end of George St.He said it's just pub food but it's good and the place is amazing....so good for a drink or lunch.

He said the Balmoral will be good but very expensive.

Also look at Prestonfield House Hotel....the restaurant is called Rhubarb, and, in the bar they do the best cocktails in Edinburgh. The setting is lovely.

He also said the Witcherie is top class but you have to book up to a year in advance, but worth ringing.

As someone else said the restaurant at the top of the Museum will be lovely too.

Do have a look at The Prestonfield and tell us what you think.x

Thank you Kate,
I have tried the Witchery but no luck , as you say they were booked a long time ago. I have looked up the restaurant inside the Balmoral called number one and looks ok. We shall go to the Dome for lunch the following day, that sounds good
We are not going until 16 and 17 of December but I will let you know how it went
Thanks again
