I am so unfit and have a lot of weight to lose and do not like walking but have come to the conclusion I need to have a walk everyday. Just been on Amazon to look at the pedometer but am at a loss to know which one to buy. Please can somebody help me as I see there are quite a few of you who use them. I really need to do two little walks at first a day.
Hope one of you can suggest which one is best to use.
Many thanks.

Hi sootybear walking is great fun and even doing little walks can help. I have an Omron from Amazon. Easy to set and seems pretty accurate. Also resets itself at midnight so once you have your details in off you go. Good luck are you going to join the Stepsisters? Ginny45

i've just come back from an hours walk, i have an Omron (as recommended on the forum) got it on Amazon it's an Omron Walking Style II and it tells you how many steps, how many aerobic steps you've taken and how many calories you've burned. I juts burned 240 calories !! I paid about £12 for it i think. I started off with 15 minutes a day about 2 weeks ago, it's amazing how quickly you get into it.

I just ordered my Omron yesterday on the recommendation of several forummers, and intend to join the stepsisters when it arrives. I need the motivation.

Little tip for Sooty Bear and misser, first of all well done both of you for making the decision to move more. As a help to weight loss DON't go on a diet. Starving yourself never works because you will obsess about food. I know I did. Make a few positive changes instead. You know the sort of thing, eat unprocessed carbohydrates, that means brown rice instead of white, wholemeal pasta instead of regular, brown bread instead of white. Cut out the bad gunk (just 90% of time!) this is the secret Don't tell yourself I can't have, instead say I won't have, Monday to Friday and on Sunday have a little of what you like. I didn't have much to lose really but there was always that stubborn stone too much on my middle. Changed my eating habits and started working out and since June I've lost 12lbs and I'm delighted. Back to the weight I was before 4 children 20 years ago and I feel great. Have to keep going now. Good luck to you both and keep posting on here. Check out www.getyouinshape.com my brothers brother in law runs it and I took some of my tips off there. Remember any exercise is better than none at all. Don't get discouraged.

Thanks August for your tips.
I have to watch what I eat anyway as I have IBS and bad acid reflux as I have a hiatus hernia and now have a pharengeal pouch. Have got to have operation on pouch in January. I had not ever heard of such a thing until I saw the ENT specialist. I started getting bad asthma symptoms and sore throat and cough for about three months and then was referred to a specialist. The trouble is they do not know if I have got real asthma as I have never suffered from it. They do say it can come out later in life but they are having to treat me for it until I see what happens after the op. The consultant says the pouch is small but he is going to try and stretch it out. I dare not keep thinking about it. I retired about two years ago from work and have put so much weight on and had got into a right rut hardly going out. Then we bad family problems with daughter and that has just put me in a right pickle. I am now determined to get out there and get as much walking done so to lose weight and never getting breathless just by walking. The problems in my life are not going away but I am trying hard to just think about myself at the moment as I want to be fit enough to have this op.
Will keep posting and updating you all.
PS. Sorry I have run on a bit!!!!!!

Hi all
Chilla originally recommended the Omron, and we have said before - she should be on commission! I have also recommended it to a couple of non-forum friends.
I'm a stepsister, but probably walk less than most of them (as work gets in the way unfortunately), but I aim to walk AT LEAST 10,000 steps, 5 times a week, and I have managed to achieve this most weeks.
Walking is a fantastic way to keep fit, and wearing the pedometer and reporting back to the stepsisters is definitely a good motivator. Also, sootybear, it should help with your anxiety and depression.
Look forward to seeing you on the stepsisters threads when your pedometer arrives......just off for a little walk myself now before it gets dark!

Hi Chilla
Just been for a half hour walk but I walk like a snail so my hubby sayes. 10,000 steps seems a heck of a lot for a day. It will be interesting to see what I do.
Cannot wait to get the pedometer.

Sootybear I bought the Omron walking style 11 on Amazon this morning for £9.
Like you I am pretty desperate too. I really must lose so much. Cant think of anything else I can do. Diets are no good for me - I cheat.
Good luck. Hope you do really well.

Hi Sootybear
I used to be on an interactive walking site and the Omron was the one that came with the pack. I've had mine more than 2 years now and it's still going strong. About 10 minutes is 1000 - 1100 steps, you'll soon start lookingfor ways to sneak extra steps in. It's well worth just doing your usual day for a while so you get your base and your motivation!!!
When I was on Fitbug, I could still eat 1900 calories a day and lose weight as long as I was doing18,000 steps a day.
Omron - commission please, I think I've sold about 35 for you!

Hi sootybear
I joined the Stepsisters two or three weeks ago. I had over 6st to lose, now it's over 5st, so I'm getting there. Chilla, Meganb, Lillie, Cinnamon and all the others are so supportive and are such a help to me. I have increased my exercise quite a lot since I started stepping on a regular basis and I feel so much better. I took it quite steady to start with but now I try and fit in as much as I can. I'm sure you'll enjoy it and feel the benefit very soon.
