Oxford day trip
      #501329 - 05/11/2009 14:32

We are going to Oxford on Saturday and need advice about parking.

Are the Park-and-Rides OK? I mean regular, easy to find/park up, inexpensive and run late?

We aim to start out at Blackwells but have no plans after that. If anyone knows Oxford and can recommend nice places to at which to eat and drink, please tell!

Hiya,
I was use the park and ride when visiting Oxford.

I can recommend the Oxford Story, (although it may be a little expensive) it has little cars similar to a ghost-train and I found it very interesting to discover how education evolved in the UK...I know it's the teacher in me! The young 'uns in my party thought it was cool to discover lots of history in a different way.

The covered market is great, my favourite shops are the Cake Shop and the deli that has a window full of all types of olives...a word of caution...butchers in the covered market hang the whole dead animals from hooks outside the shops!! Again young 'uns in my party thought this was great, but their veggie father didn't.

Please keep your bag across or at the front of your body as Oxford gets very busy and crowded.

If you are interested in Crime, the Morse tour is good which goes from the Tourist Information office. It only costs £5 and lasts about 2 hours. Because we love Morse, Frost, Midsommer Murders etc. we really enjoyed it.

Have just returned from a weekend there. Loved it. I would recommend park and ride (we didn't use it as we went in on Sunday as things were a bit quieter) but it seemed to work well, buses very plentiful. Very very busy shops which were only just closing at 7pm Sunday! Could not get into the Randolph for morning coffee either. I would check online - there must be a touristy website.
