What is your bedtime ritual?
      #500904 - 04/11/2009 22:13

Do you and OH go to bed at the same time or not?
Do you have a bedtime drink?
Do you read or watch TV in bed?

Does it take you a long time to drop off or do you fall asleep as soon as you switch the light off?

We go to bed at the same time, I usually take a drink of juice to drink if thirsty through the night. OH usually reads his book and I look at magazines or play my Nintendo DS!
Takes me ages to drop off though normally but if I've been looking after GS I sleep like a baby!!

Hi there Cinders,

We very rarely go to bed at the same time, but tonight OH has already gone up, and he will be reading his book when I go up, and on the bed with him will be our Cavvie, all snuggled up, snoring happily.

In the colder months, I always have a mug of Ovaltine, sometimes Horlicks.

Never go straight to sleep, always read, sometimes, watch TV, but always listen to the radio.

It takes me an age to drop of Cinders, and then when I do, I generally wake up through the night, as you know.

Hope you sleep well tonight.

Plasmo x

I never go to bed before midnight. Sometimes I will have a glass of white wine, but no hot beverages for me. Once in bed I do put on the tv, but nearly always go to sleep with it on. I also have to have the bedroom window open no matter what the weather is doing outside (hot sweats you see). Usually sleep quite well.

Hi Izzy, Plasmo and Caz!

Interesting replies. I usually put OH to bed and then go and watch a bit of TV in peace.then a hot milky drink. I read in bed.....often till the early hours!!

OH gets up very early for early start at work so he tends to go to bed on weekdays before me. I am a bit of a night owl and hate going to bed until mid night and often read a book before falling asleep to stop me thinking too much to sleep. When OH away on business I go to bed earlier and watch TV as I have been known to fall asleep downstairs on sofa and wake up in middle of night freezing.

Hi Cinders,

I normally go to bed first - when OH comes up he can put his head on the pillow and he's asleep, but not me! I have to read, even if its only a page. If the tv or radio were on I would find it even harder to drop off. Many years ago I would take a mug of Bournvita up with me, but not these days, as I would be up all night visiting the loo! Sometimes I will take a glass of chilled water.

Once I am asleep I'm normally ok, but if something happens in the night, or a loud car goes by, especially after 3.30 ish, then I wake, and cannot get back to sleep.

I hope you are sleeping better these days!

When I read all these post I wonder how little kiddies ever come along?? Maybe the weekends are different.??

My OH and I go to bed and read for a while but OH will finish reading before I do and I fall alseep really quickly - as soon as head hits pillow. Unfortunatley I waken about 4-00 am and that is me for a few hours.

Hi Cinders xx

We always go to bed together. No bedtime drinks. Usually around midnight.

Once there, we chat for a short while, usually something funny that either of us has forgotten to tell the other during the day

After lights out I then have to get up to check a) the cooker is off b) the doors are locked c) Ruby Kitten has not been shut in the wrong room....every time, there was no need!!!!

Return to bed, OH then calls me a Dumb Blonde. Within 5 minutes both of us are asleep. Nothing wakes us until 6am when we both seem to wake at the same time.

We normally go up round about the same time usually within 10 minutes of each other. Hot Choc for me in bed, nothing for OH. I will read for at least an hour maybe more ( much to OH's dismay). Usually drop off as long as I have read for a while, but tend to wake frequently throughout night. Funny though I can sleep quite soundly when its time to get up.

Up the wooden stairs at the same time as OH.
Undress
Cleanse, tone and moisturise,
clean teeth,
brush hair
glass of water by the bed,
take me statin,
read me book,
cuddle me OH
pinch the duvet back and drop off... till the first flush comes. l o l
and then awake for ages .....

Scarp xx

Just noticed that quite a few of you ladies have a hot drink before bed, like cocoa or hot chocolate. I have tried both, but I think it has the adverse effect on me and seems to perk me up, so now I don't bother.

Hello Cinders

I have two different rituals - weekdays, when OH is away, I stay up till quite late, it's generally at least 1 or 2 am before I'm in bed and even then I read, either the paper or a novel. Both dogs sleep in the bedroom with me, but they aren't allowed on the bed - it may be a Kingsize but a Great Dane take up a lot of space!!

On Friday nights, when OH first comes home, he is usually pretty tired and he goes to bed quite early. Saturdays and Sundays we usually manage to get to bed at the same time and then, on Monday, the routine starts all over again!!

I sleep very late and usually with tele on, if I wake up I turn it all off. If I wake early I stick it back on again and pray.

I hope I'm not going to offend anyone by lowering the tone of this rather tasteful little discussion, but no one has mentioned SEX in their bedroom routine!!

I'm interested to know, because I think issues surrounding bedroom routine possibly contributed to the end of my marriage and one thing I really treasure now is going to bed on my own. Hot drink, magazine, radio and no one laying next to me hoping that there might be some nookie action. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I didn't enjoy sex, but when you've been together for 30 years, there is a limit to how much excitement you can drum up! I loved cuddles, but my husband didn't seem to understand what one of those was and so we would inevitably end up with him mis-reading my attention (although I did eventually give this up as I knew where he would think it was leading). I would have loved to be able to have laid in bed chatting and cuddling as one or two of you have mentioned in your bedroom routine, but unfortunately, it wasn't possible.

Does anyone else have experience of the above or am I unique?

No not unique, I was the same, shame lots of them can't just cuddle, still, best sleeping on my own now too.

ChrissieL, your post is interesting and very valid and I would have plenty to say about it but not on a public forum

Once you meet 20 or 30 other people from the forum you are no longer all that anonymous really ..
